A third work

edit

He's also credited with An Leabhar Ruadh Muimhneach AKA An Leabhar Ruadh in or just before 1400 AD, and examined by Mícheál Ó Cléirigh (Michael O'Clery) at Quin Friary in 1621. This is not to be confused with An Leabhar Muimhneach, which is later. ALRM may also be the rubro vero libro, ('true-red book', distinguished from a rufus 'ruddy, reddish' volume), "which contained genealogical tracts of some antiquity", as described by Friar Antonius Bruodinus in the 1630s at the library (presumably monastic) in Moynoe, Co. Clare. I have no idea yet whether WP has any material anywhere about this work (e.g., whether there is some page or section or list entry to link to when mentioning it).

I've integrated this material into the article.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  03:02, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Location

The statement "in what is now the extreme south of County Galway" appears to be wrong, and there doesn't seem to be a source for it among the sources we have on hand. Another I found [1] has our "Bally Lough Deacker" as modern Ballaghdacker (Irish: Baile Locha Deacair, of which "Bally Lough Deacker" is clearly an anglicization, also occuring as "Ballyloughdacker", etc.). That is [2][3] in the parish of Athleague, which straddles north (not south) Galway and south Roscommon. Athleague is [4][5] a civil parish in the barony of Killian, in Galway; and a civil parish and townland in the barony of Athlone North and diocese of Elphin, on the Roscommon side. Not sure what the diocese is on the Galway side.

So, unless someone's got evidence there's another "Bally Lough Deacker" in south Galway and that Ó Cuindlis was from there, I think the article needs correcting.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  07:18, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
