Mom wording

edit

small point " a woman, identified as Miriam Gallegos" is police weasel speak I think. Surely the call was from Miriam Gallegos or did she deny making the call? Victuallers (talk) 17:26, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't think this article complies with Wikipedia:Notability (criminal acts)

edit

I don't think this article is appropriate, per Wikipedia:Notability (criminal acts). At the very least, it should be renamed to something like Murder of Neveah Gallegos and written to focus on the crime, as WP:VICTIM is clear that articles on a victim of a crime shouldn't exist unless the person is notable for other reasons. However, I'm not sure if the article meets the requirement of significant coverage on at least a national scale as required by Wikipedia:Notability (criminal acts). It seemed to me that most of the coverage is local to Denver (at least based on the sources currently in the article). If there isn't more national coverage that could be added to the article, then I think it should be deleted entirely rather than just renamed. Calathan (talk) 21:11, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Since several have edited it and it was approved for DYK, several people seem to disagree with you. RlevseTalk 22:12, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't think you can make that assumption. I don't think DYK takes into consideration whether an article meets the notability guidelines, just if sources in the article back up the statements in it. Also, even if there were several editors of the article, they all could be unaware of the relevant notability guideline. Calathan (talk) 23:45, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Or maybe they aren't deletionists like you. Then you may as well delete just about everything in the murdered children and abused children resulting in death categories rather than just picking on this one article.RlevseTalk 23:59, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm definitely an inclusionist in general. Note that I didn't nominate the page for deletion (so far at least). However, I can see no justification at all for having this article at this name. It seems like a cut and dry violation of WP:VICTIM. Is there any particular reason why you think this article needs to be at this name, rather than at a name that makes it be about the crime? Also, I've not said that the crime isn't notable, but that the sources in the article so far don't show that it is notable as they are mainly local. If you can add sources showing continuing national coverage, I will have no objection to keeping the article (but would still want it renamed). Also, please keep in mind that other articles in the categories you list might either also need to be renamed/deleted, or meet the requirements at WP:VICTIM. Obviously, I became aware of this specific article because it was linked from the main page. Calathan (talk) 00:21, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
It has many reputable sources and your argument that it is of only regional interest doesn't wash as there are many regional articles of notability on wiki. "National" scope is not required. That her death led to changes in a large city's methods of handling cases of this type make it notable. I don't care if you change it to "Murder of Neveah Gallegos" but no way you'll convince me it should be deleted.RlevseTalk 00:41, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Please read Wikipedia:Notability (criminal acts). Unlike basically everything else on Wikipedia, criminal acts generally require coverage on the national or global level to be considered notable. Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and rename the article as the name is my biggest objection to it right now. Calathan (talk) 00:44, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Renamed. RlevseTalk 00:47, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. I'm not planning to nominate the page for deletion, but I still think it would be better if more sources with a national scope could be added. Calathan (talk) 00:48, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

WP:Death Assessment Commentary

edit

The article was rated Start-class for lack of Coverage on two points:

  • The last mention of trial proceedings was from early 2011. It needs to be updated.
  • The Lead section and DYK hook both mention how this case led to "changes" in the Denver Department of Human Services, but unless I missed something, I don't believe those changes were explained in the body of the article.

I have now updated the article to show the results of the trail, but know nothing about the "changes" so I've left that be. 137.43.72.235 (talk) 19:12, 16 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
