Query over usage
edit"...accompany the working day in factories and fields"???
Can anyone find confirmation that MWYW entertainment was actually aimed at outdoor field workers?? What was the state of mobile public address systems in the 1940s and 1950s?? JXM 07:13, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, you're probably right, that is pushing it a bit. It was certainly used in factories though. I probably had the episode of Dad's Army called "All is Safely Gathered in" in mind. I will change it - thanks.Rob 08:41, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
BBC station carrying MWYW
editQuote: ...broadcast twice daily in the United Kingdom on the BBC General Forces Programme. It began broadcasting in June 1940 ...
Well, the programme cannot have been broadcast in the General Forces Programme in 1940, since that station did not come on air until 1944, although it is more than likely that the GFP did carry MWYW between the ending of the Forces Programme and the opening of the Light Programme. I believe that from the start MWYW was carried by both the Home Service and the Forces Programme. I certainly remember one daily edition at least being broadcast simultaneously by both Home and Light for many postwar years. (Currently looking for references and dates: can anyone beat me to it?) -- Picapica 13:13, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
