"Single understanding"

"Hence, no single understanding of the concept existed in the later Middle Ages and Renaissance."
This appears to mean either "no one really understood it", or "it was understood in different ways". May I suggest the following?
Hence, musicians of the later Middle Ages and Renaissance did not all share a uniform interpretation of this concept. TooManyFingers (talk) 01:54, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
