There was a better photo that was commented out a while back. Image:ByrnJonesSoleilmoonPromoPhoto.jpg How about using it instead? --Mperry 03:24, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Soliemoon

edit

i'm adding the list of unreleased stuff soiliemoon announced (list: http://arabbox.free.fr/unreleased.htm ), theres no telling whether or not all of this stuff will come to light eventually, so it is helpful to note what is known. AlexOvShaolin 05:17, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

cut/paste from my site

edit

I am the webmaster of the arabbox fansite about Muslimgauze, and I see lots of photos and texts are cut/paste into that page about Muslimgauze.I want to say that I am not ok with that, you can make a link to my site unstead : http://arabbox.free.fr The unreleased section will be real time modified, it's much more better and respectful to my work. thank you. mo. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.220.90.11 (talkcontribs) .

I have emailed the webmaster of the site in question to verify that this message was posted by him/her. If I get an affirmative response I will go through the article and remove any copyright violations and rewrite sections where applicable. --Mperry 20:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks :) (I had a look, but couldn't read the red-text-on-black during the daylight!) -Quiddity 22:10, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I did hear back and it was him that posted that. --Mperry 00:12, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
WO hold up, the reason i added that info is because it sounds like the dude from arabbox merely nicked the info from the izlamaphobia news letter. if i am wrong, and he is from soilemoon, thats different. And as far as the promotional stuff goes, unless the dude running arrabox owns the rights to them (which he may) he really doesn't have authority to request them being removed. AlexOvShaolin 01:43, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
The spreadsheet style info (discog etc) should be perfectly fine to copy. It is freely available info. (Just like IMDB couldn't object to our copying an actor's filmography). Though the site should be listed as the primary source. As long as no prose was copied without sourcing (whether from a site or a newsletter), and no personal photos used, it should be all good. Or perhaps Mo. can point out a few specific problems? :) --Quiddity 03:26, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
That list of unreleased material has made it's way around the islamaphonia mailing list about once a year since right after Bryn died. IIRC, Charles from Soleilmoon put the list together and all Mr. Arabbox has done is delete the parts of the list that have since been released. And it's ludicrous for him to assert that his list will be edited in "real time"; as if the pace of Muslimgauze releases is so overwhelming that there's no way the list on this page couldn't be edited as well. dil 13:38, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

vandalism by 81.220.90.11

edit

it seems that the person running arrabox has committed a fair amount of unrespectable editing, especially on Oct. 28. Even though the content used on this site came from his website (posters, et cetera), he by no means owns the exclusivity to the content, as it is fair use promotional material. After he edited the article, and it was reverted by a few people paying attention, he requests that material is removed. I dont think there is much excuse for this action, and i'm proposing banning him, i would like a concensus, thank you. AlexOvShaolin 03:55, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not a bannable offence at all. He's just not educated about how this project works yet. Now that we have the beginnings of a dialogue, he might even become a contributor. WP:AGF and WP:BITE ;-)
He may not own the images, but it looks like he might have scanned them himself - I'd be grumpy if someone used my scans, regardless of ownership; and I don't know whether the photographs are his own shots or 'actual promotional photos' distributed by someone else - better sourcing for these photos would be appreciated - Image:MuslimgauzeLive1998-06-13-Photo2.jpg and Image:MuslimgauzeLive1998-06-13.gif. Thanks :) --Quiddity 19:05, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, we don't need to ban him. Like Quiddity said, the guy doesn't know Wikipedia or its policies. --Mperry 00:09, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Moved discography to its own page

edit

The discography section was huge and was dominating the page so I've moved it to its own page. Maybe we can update the format and put it in a table with album info and CD covers. Example. --Mperry 19:55, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Remixing

edit

the article says: "However, despite a few collaborations, Jones didn't trust anyone when it came to remixing his music. Instead, he would usually take pieces of music that were sent to him and remix them to his own liking."

what about, for example, the whole "occupied territories" double-album? [1] [2] Tjenare 14:14, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Tjenare,

Not just the Occupied Territories, pretty much anything by any artists. Jones didn't like being remixed by anyone unless he had a final go at them.I. Khider (talk) 17:49, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Taqwacore

edit

I removed this as a category for two reasons. First, Muslimgauze wasn't a punk project and Taqwacore seems to espouse some kind of melange of hardcore punk and Islamic culture; slapping a genre label on Muslimgauze that postdates Bryn's death by four years doesn't really seem appropriate. Second, I'm having trouble buying into a genre that is named after a book detailing a (then) fictional genre of music and that, according to Wikipedia, has precisely one band attributed to it. dil 21:25, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:BrynJonesMuslimgauzePromoPhoto.jpg

edit

Image:BrynJonesMuslimgauzePromoPhoto.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Dear BetacommandBot,

It's called substantiating a claim. if a newspaper proclaims John F. Kennedy was shot, a photo of the tragedy on the front page of the newspaper helps substantiate that claim. In that context it is relevant. If I am doing an entry on Bryn Jones, a picture of him helps prove that he existed and it is kind of relevant. Of course, images can be fabricated, just ask the National Enquirer. But if loads of people step forth to say, 'I saw the picture, that's Bryn, I remember him!' Then we can establish it as a fact. If someone sees the picture of the assassination of Kennedy on the front page, a Texan might say, 'I saw it, I was there, I remember that terrible moment.' The idea of image to substantiate a claim works its magic, especially if it is true.I. Khider (talk) 04:27, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Never equipment from the US or Japan?

edit

How can this be true if DAT originated in Japan—and many of the masters of his recordings are on DAT?? Even if the equipment was made in—horrors!—China, the technology comes from Japan. I think that sentence should be removed. Peace —MuzikJunky (talk) 07:20, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can't be true the photo being used shows two Akai S-5000 samplers, and a few yamaha boxes behind him (all made in Japan) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.147.36.35 (talk) 01:28, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Edits Update

edit

Greetings, I am updating the Muslimgauze entry. I am ready to verify all my claims I make. I do not object to changes by others but would like to be informed first so I can supply the pertinent sources should any detail be contested. The entry is a work-in-progess, mistakes will be made, so I am eager to be corrected and helped for any editorial/content discussion.

btw, Jones had no problem using US or Japanese gear. The claim he was against said gear is spurious. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by I. Khider (talkcontribs) 21:24, 21 December 2008

Hello,

I am close to another draft of the Muslimgazue entry, in its entirety. I am wondering when I will be granted the right to upload images and sound. I think images help substantiate and empower a claim. For instance, if I say Bryn Jones played in Japan--by posting the image of a poster--it helps substantiate the claim. I contacted the designer of the posters and the original photographers and can get clearance to use the images. I will also contact the Arabbox site runner and try to get his blessings as well. Let's see if we can upgrade the class of the entry to something more respectable. Anyone's help of getting upload privilege clearance would be greatly appreciated. I. Political Views

edit

I made an edit several months back, which gave some clarity to Bryn Jones' previously held views. But they have been wrongfully removed. Simon Crab of Bourbonese Qualk described Jones as "naturally Conservative and quite right-wing," noting that Jones admired Margaret Thatcher during his youth.[1]

I believe it's right to keep this in, I was not being contrarian when adding this. I think the Wiki admins should clearly lay out Jones' political journey in his Political Beliefs section. The source is good and reputable, and is from various interviews with other musicians who knew Bryn Jones, I see no reason why this edit or a similiar edit could be made to reflect this. 2A00:23C5:EDB1:1:886:DF6E:9AAD:D689 (talk) 18:10, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

It was (rightfully) removed because you had originally neglected to include a fairly important part of the quote - "... suspect a lot of this was just to be contrary." See MOS:QUOTE, namely re omitting text. ToeSchmoker (talk) 18:40, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
