Judging by the size of the article the review shouldn't be long, but I'll leave some initial comments by tomorrow at the latest. Jaguar 18:54, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Initial comments

Lead

edit
  • "Muthu Alagappan (born c. 1990[1][2])" - is it meant to be refs outside the brackets? I can't remember
  • I couldn't help but notice that he has two different dates of birth; in the lead it says he was born in 1990 whereas in the infobox it dates it to either 1989/1990? Is there a definite date of birth?
  • The lead is of good length and summarises the article so this meets the GA criteria

Early life

edit
  • This section is looking pretty short, but understandable if you can't find any information on his personal life. Should this section be called 'Early life'? It doesn't mention anything regarding his actual early life other than where he was born and raised? For example "As of 2013, he is a medical student at Stanford School of Medicine" doesn't sound like his early life!
  • "Alagappan was born in Crewe, England and raised in Houston, Texas" - disambiguation - link as "Crewe, England" and "Houston, Texas"?

Basketball analytics

edit
  • "His data-driven analysis has been well received" - well received by whom?
  • "ESPN TrueHoop's Jim Calvan criticized Alagappan's Sloan presentation" - Sloan? Is this referring to the Analytics Conference?
  • "GQ called his work "a new frontier for the NBA" - GQ is already linked in this section
  • "player-character" - would you prefer protag- oh, wait

On hold

edit

This is small and compact article which is worthy of meeting the GA criteria. I have only put this on hold because of those minor issues which could be clarified in order to improve readability. Aside from some missing content (his date of birth maybe) and the question of his early life this article looks like it could pass the GAN soon. Please let me know when you've addressed those, thanks! Jaguar 15:59, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Jaguar, thanks for the review. I lol'd at the player-character part. Different kind of player. Yep, refs go inside parentheses rather than outside (when sourcing the inside stuff). 89/90 should be good enough—I only have his age cited in articles and not a birthday. It's closer to 90 so I used circa in the lede. Technically "early life" includes all schooling-type stuff in biographies (if you think about it, it's just the beginning of his life). I can change it to "personal life" if you insist, though. Being specific with the Crewe/Houston links shouldn't matter, no? The well received part is explained by the rest of the paragraph. Got the rest. Let me know what you think? And good luck with your college stuff czar  16:32, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your fast response! Don't worry about the "early life" section, I agree with you regarding the schooling type bio. I only thought that linking Crewe and Houston individually would be cleaner but you're right there, it shouldn't matter. This article meets the GA criteria as I can't see anything else wrong with it. Thanks for wishing me luck too, just hoping a university accepts me now... Jaguar 18:21, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
