My Aim is True (Mobile Fidelity 180g)
Will someone be mentioning this in the article? http://www.musicdirect.com/product/85601 This is the version I plan to acquire, if I can actually purchase it. :)24.68.50.33 (talk) 05:17, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
This Page Needs Work
This article is a little review-sih. I'm going to fix it up. Any problems with my update, let me know. Nervousbreakdance 00:02, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Additionally, I've just been told to refrain from removing large sections of text from these pages. Granted, a lot of this informatoin is factual, however, I doubt that it is necessary.
In the name of neurality, to say that Costello is a "powerful" performer needs to be cited, and that was indeed what was said, we should be able to source such a quote. Please discuss.Nervousbreakdance 04:13, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- That was me paraphrasing the liner notes. In the Rhino release, Costello wrote in regards to trying to convince Dave Edmunds to take him on as a songwriter, after he and some members of Clover and Nick Lowe recorded a new version of "Mystery Dance" and "Radio Sweetheart", "I realised that most of the songs on the tape that had aired on Charlie Gillett's radio show just didn't speak up enough to be heard", from which I infer that his original performances weren't so hot but now he's finding out that hey, maybe I can do a record of my own after all. Then, Stiff wanted him to share a debut with Wreckless Eric. Costello writes about this, "I cut enough new demos to make nonsense of this idea." So we can take that to mean either he didn't have enough songs and now he does, or he was good enough to have his own debut album. Anyway, lemme work out a better wording for that sentence.
- As for whether or not the Background section is necessary, I obviosuly think it is or I wouldn't have put it in. We are not AllMusic, so we are not going to give reviews of the albums, but it's factual, neutral, and it gives a good glimpse of EC in his early career that really isn't covered in the main Elvis Costello article (nor is it appropriate there, as it's probably a little too much detail that's really specific to My Aim Is True). howcheng {chat} 07:47, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Ok fair enough. I should have worded that better: the background section is necessary, but certain sections of it felt redundant. I suppose that's a debatable matter. Other than that, can we make it clearer that even just the word "powerful" was used by someone else? Thanks :D Nervousbreakdance 03:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- I rewrote that sentence to not use "powerful" since it wasn't actually part of the quote. howcheng {chat} 05:06, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- Cool, I just had a look, the page looks a lot better now ;) Yay Nervousbreakdance 06:23, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Ska
The British ska movement started AFTER "My Aim is True" came out.
The checkerboard patterns which influenced Costello and the ska boys came from 1960s op art influences.
Costello was an obvious influence on the Specials, not sure about the others
- Ah, good point. heidimo 20:31, 20 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Labels and bonus tracks
Labels:
- Columbia Records is US release, not UK.
- Rykodisc was label for the 1993 US release.
- Demon was the label for the 1993 UK release.
- Rhino was the label for the 2001 US reissue.
- Demon was the label for the 2001 UK reissue.
I believe the 2001 UK was actually on Demon's Edsel imprint. [pls forgive me if i'm violating Wkpdia etiquette by inserting this comment here]Fp cassini (talk) 23:13, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
Bonus tracks:
- These need to be added for the 1993 and 2001 reissues.
confusion re: reissues
The final sentence in the article, at the end of the 2nd section, before the tracklissting, currently reads:
The Demon re-issue originally had a yellow tint on the photo and a yellow back, and the reissue has a green tint photo.
What is meant? By the yellow "Demon re-issue" do you mean 1993 or 2001 Edsel? And then the author refers to a green "reissue." I wonder if author means to convey:
The 1993 Demon CD reissue originally had a yellow tint on the photo and a yellow back, and the 2001 Edsel CD reissue has a green tint photo.
Potentially Useful Note: elviscostello.info lists the following as the 1st CD issues:
1986-07-__ CD Demon IMP FIEND CD 13 (UK)
1986-__-__ CD Columbia 35037 (US)
