Mispronunciation in the original version

Two oddities in this song occur when Dion sings "my heart will go ond and on" and "and I know thatch the heart does go on."

Céline also stresses the second syllable of never in the phrase "and never let go till we're one." I don't know if that is required by the beat, or is simply a result of her being a native French speaker, a language which frequently puts the stress on the last pronounced syllable of a word. 71.142.78.181 21:26, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Mhwgo6.jpg

Image:Mhwgo6.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Question

It's a bit confusing..according to Titanic (soundtrack) and Let's Talk About Love, both albums included this song, are released at the same time, and both sold 30 million copies, yet neither article makes a mention of the other? Or are they in effect the same album? It's strange for two albums that partially has the same content to be released at the same date and sell just as much. Someone explain that to me. Aran|heru|nar 15:25, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Well, first off, the sales of the Titanic soundtrack and Let's Talk About Love are confirmed not only by Sony and Billboard but their actual certifications (which are always lower than actual sales) are also very close to the 30 million mark for both. Record labels may inflate figures, but the certifications never lie.
  • Also it is not very strange at all about their sales. Besides that one song the albums have no relation, and people forget Celine Dion had already reached the exact same level of sales before Titanic.
  • The Let's Talk About Love album was the follow up to her Falling into you album which is actually her best selling album that had ALSO barely surpassed the 30 million mark. It just goes to show that the 30 million mark was perhaps the extent of her worldwide album buying fanbase at the peak of her career (not counting the 30 million sales of the soundtrack and millions more of the single My Heart Will Go On), but I'm referring to her solo studio album sales. It's a coincidence that the Titanic soundtrack's success reached near the same amount of worldwide sales, and they are again completely different besides sharing one song.

Cover Versions section problem

I call for a motion to clean up or delete unverified information in this section. None of the "factoids" given are linked with references, and as of late, other users have just been adding to it, making the list exhaustive and impossible to verify. I believe we should only keep information that is either well-known or notable, or can be easily verified. I just do not want the section to become a melting pot for every pop culture event that has to do with the song. It's not encyclopedic at all. BalticPat22Patrick 15:45, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing it to a discussion first, but you're being overly formal; we don't need a motion (WP doesn't have that concept), and if we did, you wouldn't have to call for one, you could just move.
All facetious pedantry aside, I'd support the weeding out of the list, although even if we include the entire "Cover Versions" and "In popular culture" sections, I see exactly six references there (one from me), and I'd be hard pressed to pick which ones are "notable". Most of them look pretty unimportant to me. I hope you'll get more input than just my two cents' worth. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 21:07, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Oh, and sorry for the writing style. I've been an editor for nearly two years, and I am still speaking to other users like I'm editing a research paper. Anyway, I'm glad you agree that there needs to be significant slimming of the section. It seems that other users are very keen on adding information that is either not notable, or unverified, or both. Do you think it would be okay for me to try to cut some info out, alone or do you want to make a "list" of sorts, before I take any action? I not very used to deleting excess information on sections. That isn't usually my expertise.BalticPat22Patrick 21:33, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Chart-success in Germany

"My heart will go on" belongs to the most selling singles in Germany of all time. "My heart will go on" has sold over 2 million copies in Germany, and in Germany very few singles have sold more than 2 million copies. The list at musicline.de is a list where the chartposition and the number of weeks in the charts are added, so the list says NOTHING about how many copies of a single are sold and how successfull a single was in Germany. So the rank #87 for "My heart will go on" is absolutely wrong, the single belongs to the most selling singles of all time in Germany (very likely to the ten most selling singles of all time in Germany). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.122.131.217 (talk) 22:55, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, the list seems to be more like a reference supporting the claim that the song is the 87th-best-charting single in Germany.
In future, please add your comments to the bottom of Discussion pages, and remember to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~). And thanks for explaining your concerns here. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 03:31, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Huh?

"Dion was Horner's second choice only to sing it after the band Aerosmith declined the offer and think that the song is fitted for female vocal,[clarification needed] but when Dion heard the song, she did not want to record it."

This sentence is confusing. What does it mean by "think that the song is fitted for female vocal"? Is it supposed to say "though"? If so, who thought that, Aerosmith or Horner? Tad Lincoln (talk) 20:55, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Use in "Come From Away" Musical

The chorus of this song was briefly used in Come From Away, a musical about the 9/11 attacks and NewFoundland's help. I keep putting it into the Popular culture section, and someone keeps taking it out.

I do have references. The Come From Away Program is available here, straight from Mirvish.com. I coulnd't paste the link because it doesn't let me.

Mirvish.com is ticket sales site, not a reliable source. Even if a the program is reliable, how important is this to the topic of the song "My Heart Will Go On"? If the song was used briefly, it doesn't seem very important. According to WP:NOTEVERYTHING, the encyclopedia is not intended to show an exhaustive list of everything that's true about a topic. Sales

Hi .I think There's trouble with the sales of My Heart Will Go On,its initial sales was at 15 million until 2017 backed up with all the crurent certifications and official reported sales. However by late 2017,it's claimed sales increase considerably in wikipedia articles,so that it reach 18 million ! How can it be possible when My Heart Will Go On never charted since 1999-2000 ,never entered national charts ? This track has stuck to the 90's ,while some other tracks has worldwide sales and impact yearly ,for decades nevertheless,There's small amount added to their updated total unlike MHWGO.Moreover,There's no way MHWGO could be the second highest selling female single of all Time .Carlye Rae Jepsen's Call You Maybe outsold it big time, with a bigger total of certified sales. Many other female singles outsells MHWGO .Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You 's global sales surpass MHWGO's,based on certifications and national officially reported sales. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.115.181.251 (talkcontribs)
