Strange wording
edit"In the original version of the song, the 2nd verse of the song talks about the junior high english teacher having sex with him because he did not realize his gender and there was also mention of raping lesbians. That version is hard to find. The lyrics were changed to 'my english teacher wanted to flunk me in junior high' and 'extraterrestrials running over pedestrians' to avoid controversy."
Someone please reword this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.251.8.59 (talk) 15:00, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Backmasking?
editYouTube video "Subliminal Messages 2" plays the song backwards, and it then appears to go "It's Eminem" instead of "My name is". Intentional or not? I'd say it probably is, but I have nothing to back it up with. Xavius, the Satyr Lord (talk) 12:32, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Changed Lyrics
editThe "Changed Lyrics" is wrong. The CD I have, which I have had three copies of after being stolen/lost/etc., as well as the Curtian Call CD I have, has the following lyrics:
My English teacher wanted to flunk me in Jr. High
Thanks a lot
Next semester I'll be 35
I smacked him in his face with an eraser
Chased him with a stapler
Stapled his nuts to a stack of papers
The bank-wife thingie whatever he's talking about, just seems made up.
The other section is, again according to all four CDs,
Extraterrestial (no 's')
Runnin' over pedestrians, in a spaceship
While they're screamin 'at me,
"Let's just be friends!"'
On the first CD I had, the lyrics "in a spaceship" were not there, however everything else was the same. All were from physical stores.
The last paragraph of this section also looks like it was written by someone who is not intelligent. "Plenty of lyrics" and "and was completely changed for television," etc. ~Rayvn 17:55, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
I had a version on tape that was "My teacher wanted to have sex with me, the only problem, my teacher was a guy" 71.233.165.7 (talk) 20:41, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Is it really a sample?
editThere are many Internet sources that make reference to My Name Is… sampling audio from Siffre's "I Got The…" from 1975, and this wiki mentions that "The song samples British singer Labi Siffre's 1975 track "I Got The..." as a bass and guitar riff played by British pop rock duo Chas & Dave". However, Dre was known at the time for re-recording samples (while getting permission for the use of the musical work aka 'publishing') to avoid having to clear the rights to use the sound recording also. He "rerecorded the majority of the samples he used with live musicians… [because] samples were becoming too expensive to clear" (source: Jake Brown, Dr. Dre in the Studio: From Compton, Death Row, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, the Game, and Mad Money : The Life, Times, and Aftermath of the Notorious Record Producer, Dr. Dre (Colossus Books 2006) 64.).
The US Copyright office defines an Interpolation as " taking part of an existing musical work (as opposed to a sound recording) and incorporating it into a new work". It further notes that "under U.S. copyright law, the exclusive rights in sound recordings do not extend to making independently recorded “sound alike” recordings."
And, to quote a primary source, the single's credits on the CD release clearly state [my emphasis] "Contains an interpolation of "I Got The", as recorded by Labi Siffre […]". That is to say, the creators of "My Name Is…" state explictly that the Siffre excerpt is in fact an interpolation, not a sample, as stated in this wiki entry.
I am not personally a confident wikipedian, so would appreciate it if someone more experienced than I might make the edit for factual accuracy.
