Instrumentation build-up throughout the song
editThis song appears to build up as it progresses. The song begins with a Hammond organ, bass guitar and drum set, followed by an electric guitar, piano and vibraphone, and finally strings and a baritone sax. Although it's obvious that Earl Van Dyke played the keyboard parts, I'm curious to know who the other musicians in the song were. I guess this part of the song really isn't that notable.--Kevjgav (talk) 21:58, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Possible "Funk Brothers" members
- Robert White, Eddie Willis or Joe Messina - guitar
- Earl Van Dyke - piano, Hammond organ
- Benny Benjamin, Richard "Pistol" Allen or Uriel Jones - drums
- James Jamerson or Bob Babbitt - bass
- Jack Ashford or Jack Brokensha - vibes
- Henry Cosby or Wild Bill Moore - baritone sax
- Gordon Staples and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra - strings
piano may have been played by a second keyboard player (possibly Johnny Griffith)
This is probably too much for the article to cover.--Kevjgav (talk) 21:33, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
Afghan Whigs
editI won't speculate as to the why, but the Afghan Whigs cover version of the song had a lot of extra information about it in the main article. It was called out in the sidebar, and the "Covers" section had a table devoted to it.
I removed this extra information to put it at the same level of detail as other cover versions.
