Storage of refs

edit

These refs have nothing to do with the topic on which they appear but I would like to store them here to be retrieved when the text gets written to which they will be relevant (whoever writes it). The first one is about an imaginary river as dead as the Dead Sea that originates on Mycale, goes through the Mediterranean and pops up in Sicily. The second is about the geographical mythology of the river. The refs: Pausanias, 5.7.5, 7.4.1.Dave (talk) 11:16, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

This strange ref from Pausanias's mythical account of the Ionians has Hector of Trojan War fame sacrificing with the Ionians of the Ionian League at the Panionium and receiving a tripod at the games. This only would have been possible by anachronism; that is, Pausanias really means a collaboration of Ionians (there was no Ionian League then) sacrificed with Trojans at the Carian shrine that preceded the Panionium (there was no Panionium then either). In any case the passage has nothing to do with locating the Panionium on Mycale near Priene so it does not support what it seemed intended to support. Someone though might find it useful for something so I'm putting it here. The ref: Pausanias, 7.4.10.Dave (talk) 19:38, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
