A great article though.
How she became "Loy"
The article mentions her birth surname as Williams and describes how she go her first name, but never mentions how she became "Loy". Does anyone know?
- There is no particular reason given in her autobiography other than it sounded "exotic". I'll try to find something, because that's a good question. Rossrs 06:33, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK, my last comment is not entirely true. I've gone through the biography and this is Myrna Loy's recollection in a nutshell. Around 1925 she was working with a group of writers and artists and they thought the name "Williams" was too plain. Someone came up with "Myrna Lisa", after the famous painting. Myrna said that such a name would be embarassing. They kept throwing around names and one of the group shouted "Myrna Loy". Myrna was not entirely convinced but the name stuck. As an interesting footnote, some of her Welsh friends (Loy was of Welsh descent and Williams is a very Welsh name) refused to acknowledge her as Loy. She says that Richard Burton and Emlyn Williams would always introduce her as "Miss Williams". The studios early in her career thought the name was exotic - she was kind of typecast in Asian roles and as temptresses for quite a while, so the name worked pretty well for her. So there you go! At some point I will add a very shortened version of this, into the article. Rossrs 13:00, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Alcohol
Her Thin Man films had continuous and repeated references to alcohol. Was Loy a drinker in private life?Lestrade 17:59, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Lestrade
BW image?
Why is the image for Under a Texas Moon in black and white, when the caption says it was a Technicolor production? Clarityfiend 22:45, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
cleaned up
I removed a massive amount of unnecessary commas throughout the article. Someone was obsessed! Derekbd 15:01, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Her schooling
It's been a while since I read her autobiography. When did she go to Westlake and when did she go to Venice High? Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 02:15, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Born Where?
The article says that Loy was born in Radersburg.
But, I have read that she was born in HELENA, at the hospital there.

I guess we need a direct quote from Ms. Loy or a birth certificate?
I also remember reading somewhere that the name Myrna came from a railroad watering stop in Blue Earth County, Minnesota when her parents where going to Chicago from Montana. But that one is going to be a lot harder to find.
- "You remind of a man."
- "What man?"

- I consulted some reference works and they all said Helena. Radersburg in the article is only sourced to what appears to have been a blog, but is now a broken link. This is all more than sufficient to edit the article to say Helena. Gamaliel (talk) 03:48, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Personal Life - Religion
A sentence was added recently regarding Myrna Loy's religious preferences and membership in the Methodist Church during her years in NYC. The page cite used to back up this assertion is to Emily Leider's recent biography of Myrna Loy, pp 387-388. I believe this is incorrect; those pages are in the back index and don't mention her religion or church membership. Is there another verifiable source to back up this assertion? - If you have the book and the reference is definitely incorrect, then please go ahead and delete that sentence. --Lobo512 (talk) 16:32, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Color photo
I was surprised to see her name on a list of redheads as all of the photos here are in black and white. Are there any free photographs that are in color of Myrna Loy? Liz Read! Talk! 17:07, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
