The merge flag has been there since July 2010 and no support. So I will remove it. History2007 (talk) 00:09, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Martha and Mary of Bethany

edit

Both of them are Myrrhbearers according to the Eastern Orthodox tradition. They appear on most icons. So I added them to this list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 15.251.169.69 (talk) 17:40, 24 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please add a source per WP:V, and clarify that from the source. Thanks. History2007 (talk) 17:42, 24 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Done. Also check the websites for the Orthodox Church in America, as well as for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. http://ocafs.oca.org/FeastSaintsViewer.asp?SID=4&ID=1&FSID=103797 and http://www.goarch.org/chapel/saints_view?contentid=1067&PCode=2PS&D=S&date=5/8/2011

Plus, I am a member of the Eastern Orthodox church, so I know of what I speak. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 15.251.169.70 (talk) 17:47, 24 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ok, so I've logged on. How do I take off the unsigned to reflect that I am the one who made the edits and stand behind them with appropriate sources from my church?Ladycascadia (talk) 17:50, 24 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Another source: http://orthodoxwiki.org/Sunday_of_Myrrh-bearing_Women and a link to the synaxarion http://www.synaxis.info/synaxis/5_synaxarion/parent/myrrhbearingwomen.html Ladycascadia (talk) 17:56, 24 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

The whole thing, which is certainly complicated, needs expanding and clarifying. The various sources you quote here don't seem to agree that much. The best account of the different narratives in the gospels is at Empty tomb, which is now linked. Johnbod (talk) 19:09, 24 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, as you said it is not a trivial matter at all. I guess we need more WP:RS sources as well. I will put this on my "to do list" but it will probably be next year, unless you guys want to do it now - which I would prefer! There are actually several RS sources that give the "minimal biblical facts" from which the various traditions drew their separate conclusions - but I do not have them organized right now. I don't think I will. I see the few EO icons on Commons all have 3 women + angel(s), just like Western images. Johnbod (talk) 19:40, 24 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but I am hoping we go beyond icons and trace the biblical passages etc. as those sources do in detail. It is nt trivial, but they did a nice job from what I remember. Anyway, until next year.... History2007 (talk) 19:49, 24 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
