Nab
editThe definition "a Southern term for snack cracker" is an overly simplified definition of the word "nab". More specifically, nab refers to a sandwich cracker (usually with peanut butter or sometimes cheese) that is packaged by a commercial company such as Nabisco or Keebler. Each package is a single snack - 4 to 6 crackers - wrapped in cellophane. A pack of nabs and an RC Cola make a great snack on a hot humid day in the Mississippi Delta. While peanut butter between 2 Ritz crackers may resemble a nab, it's only peanut butter and crackers (and not nabs) since it's not manufactured and packaged like nabs are. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.49.225.178 (talk) 02:35, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- The word appears to have become a generic term, evolving from a product made by Nabisco: https://www.foodandwine.com/snacks/real-ones-know-about-nabs-the-cult-favorite-peanut-butter-sandwich-crackers. Still, the word in this meaning does not appear in large online dictionaries. Nabs are casually mentioned in Kingsolver's novel Demon Copperhead. 2600:6C67:1C00:5F7E:AC1F:FD99:FE88:637A (talk) 15:41, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

- NAB → National Accountability Bureau
- ISI → Inter-Services Intelligence
- FBR → Federal Board of Revenue (Pakistan)
– These moves should happen per WP:PTOPIC and WP:COMMONNAME , see news sources. Current content in these articles should be moved to new title i.e PAGENAME (disambiguation).—119.160.103.254 (talk) 03:10, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
Oppose. There's no proposal as to where the abbreviations would be redirected, and it's not obvious to me that there's a primary topic for any of them. Station1 (talk) 07:16, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[striking comment made before change]

NAB → National Accountability Bureau – I propose that the primary topic for NAB should be National Accountability Bureau (per WP:PTOPIC) and that a redirect should be put into place; the current NAB article can be moved to NAB (disambiguation). 119.160.103.209 (talk) 22:19, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

NAB → NAB (disambiguation) – I propose that the primary topic for NAB should be National Accountability Bureau (per WP:PTOPIC) and that a redirect should be put into place; the current NAB article can be moved to NAB (disambiguation). This request is copied from similar accepted request made at Talk:DEA. Please see THIS to understand 119.160.102.250 (talk) 18:45, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. No indication that there is a primary topic for this term. I probably would have opposed the DEA proposal, had I noticed it at the time. bd2412 T 19:39, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- BD2412 If you search for NAB on internet you’ll find results for National Accountability Bureau. I think every condition written at WP:PTOPIC is right for this article.
- The first Google hits that come up for me are for National Australia Bank and National Association of Broadcasters. bd2412 T 20:55, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- Additional comment: Rather than moving this page, I would merge and redirect to Nab. bd2412 T 21:40, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- I would think the opposite would be better. More entries in the combined page use "NAB" than "Nab". -- Netoholic @ 23:16, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- There is a rule somewhere, which I can't think of right now, that says that where an ambiguous term has multiple casings, we default to the lowercase. bd2412 T 12:20, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- WP:DABNAME is what you're looking for, although I've seen it argued before that when the initialisms vastly outnumber the "word" entries (as is the case here) that the capitalized name would be better. Personally I agree with merging the pages, but don't care which title is used. -- Fyrael (talk) 16:29, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

- Oppose: There doesn't seem to be any evidence that National Accountability Bureau is the primary topic. Pageviews certainly don't support it. The only similarity this bears to DEA is that they're both government agencies, but the fact that it's a government agency is not why the Drug Enforcement Agency is the primary topic there. The stated rationales in that discussion were name recognizability and page views, neither of which supports this suggested move. -- Fyrael (talk) 22:39, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose - no evidence for WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. Three-letter acronyms should have a very high bar for such a purpose. -- Netoholic @ 23:16, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose - no evidence for WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT, exactly: Three-letter acronyms should have a very high bar for such a purpose. In ictu oculi (talk) 10:49, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose National Australia Bank ("one of Australia's biggest financial institutions and one of the world's top 30 financial services companies" per the DAB) comes up first on Google (and I'm in the UK) and gets more views [[1]]. @BD2412: the DEA proposal was back in 2009 so it probably would be OK to revisit. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:56, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per others above. No basis whatsoever for the proposed primary redirect. PC78 (talk) 16:24, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose: no evidence of primary topic. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 21:15, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. DEA is one of those abbreviations that is known throughout the world; NAB is not. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:18, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
