Dispute
editI do not know wht WIKIPEDIA uses the confusing term of THE GULF for this page. There are many gulfs on this planet but we are talking about the war in the Persian Gulf. Wikipedia should ne independent and neutral in presentation of historical names such as the Persian Gulf that UN recognized it too.
Pejman
First, there is no monolithic "Wikipedia", but a concensus of contributors. As noted in this article, Gulf War was the term used by most of the western media (notably CNN). This is the English version of Wikipedia, therefore many references are Anglo-American centric. Take a look at the French article [1] for a different POV.
On a personal note, I do not like Gulf War: it is a very ambiguous name (as noted in the articloe). I never saw the Gulf until after the war, and I never fought "in the Gulf", but on land. I would prefer Liberation of Kuwait, but there was a consensus, and rightly so, on Gulf War.
There is no way to please everyone on this issue, but a decision was made. Let's stick to it and get on with more important issues.
If the UN recognized the conflict as Persian Gulf War, please give an attribution and it will be included in this article. --Gadget850 10:55, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
first gulf war
editInteresting note: I saw a series on The Discovery Channel earlier today (unsure what it was called though) were they reffered to the war as "the first gulf war". Thus implying that the current Iraq-war is the second? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.37.73.81 (talk • contribs)
