Talk:Nancy Walker/Archives/2014

Birth name

Born as Anna Myrtle Smoyer, not Swoyer, as per the following references: American Century.org, IMDb bio, Find a Death.com, Weblo.com, and The Oxford Companion to the American Musical (excerpt).

Deleted above retroactively; the last name (check also Dewey Barto page) was Swoyer, not Smoyer. I accidentally reversed them in my original comment (struck above). The rest of the thread should be interpreted accordingly. Sorry. Quis separabit? 01:27, 4 April 2014 (UTC) (Original edit: [email protected] (talk) 21:52, 20 November 2009 (UTC))

OK, now that the 'birth name' issue seems to be settled, can the words "not Swoyer," be removed from (footnote [1] of) the article? They are preserved here on the talk page (and, in the historical record of "non-latest versions" of the article page), -- right? Also, now that the phrase "as per the following references:" has been included here on the talk page (and, in the historical record of "non-latest versions" of the article page), can it be removed from ((footnote [1] of)) the article? I think it tends to be "implied", in a footnote, that if you say "Born as Anna Myrtle Smoyer" and then list some references, that it goes without saying, that those references support (or, serve as "sources" for) the "Born as" info. (right?)

IMHO, if no objections to these suggestions show up here, on this talk page, within a reasonable time, then these small changes (to footnote [1] of the article) should be made. -- Mike Schwartz (talk) 17:35, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

I reverted the edits by an unregistered user claiming that Walker was his/her aunt, who made several unsourced edits regarding the birth name. He or she is welcome to return and restore the edits citing proper references. [email protected] (talk) 17:46, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
The IMDB bio shows both birth names, Smoyer and Swoyer, randomly, on several different pages. Both birth names are widespread throughout the Web. An official record is needed to provide reliable information. At least no one is claiming that she was one of the Gumm Sisters. David Spector (user/talk) 13:56, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

On ancestry.com there is a copy of Dewey Barto's draft registration card (c. 1941), most likely in Dewey's own hand that clearly prints in the "Name" field "Stewart Steven Swoyer known as Dewey Barto." The draft registration card is signed "Stewart S Swoyer" and "K.A. Dewey Barto." Brad Smith (talk) 15:02, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Having heard no objection in the past month to listing Nancy Walker's birth name as "Swoyer," based on her father's draft registration card, I'm making the change. Brad Smith (talk) 18:55, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Does anyone know if Walker's sister, Betty Lou Barto (born August 17, 1930), is still alive?? Quis separabit? 01:16, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
