Swamp between Hastings Street and Wellesley Road

edit

quote: "There was a swamp between the now Hastings Street and Wellesley Road and the water extended to Clive Square." This seems unlikely. Houses older than the 1931 earthquake can be found in Nelson Crescent and Vigor Brown street further west than Wellesley Road. A tram track ran down Nelson Crescent before the quake. My father grew up in a house in Swan street between Hastings Street and Wellesley road. The swamp at that stage was further west, around the current Douglas Mclean Avenue. If this was true the land must have been reclaimed before the 1931 earthquake. Is there any evidence of this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.92.43.195 (talk) 00:14, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, reclamation started in the 1870s. Nurg (talk) 04:05, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Napier flags

edit

I think that it would be good to include the Napier City flag(s) in at least the basic info box, similar to what has been done on the Wellington page.

There are images available online for the flags at e.g. Flags of the World and the Napier City Council website, but I don't have the copyright or permission to upload them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Radicuil (talkcontribs) 11:03, 3 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Could they be public domain?Maria Gemmi (talk) 11:17, 3 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
The flags of Napier appear to be owned by the Napier City Council according to their Emblems and Ensign Policy. I'd suggest someone seek permission to use a low res version, perhaps? Jakoats02 (talk) 05:45, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
