Subway

edit

A subway is simply an accessway passing underneath something. Australia has hundreds of subways. Narwee subway passes under the railway line and gives access to the station. I've restored and expanded the caption accordingly. --Gene_poole (talk) 05:56, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, in this context, it's a pedestrian subway. Michellecrisp (talk) 06:11, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I understand your definition of subways. My point was more that its not a common term of use in Australia, and has connotations of underground railway lines rather than pedestrain accesses to the typical Australian. We would refer to the access shown in the photo as a tunnel. --141.243.60.11 (talk) 03:14, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't know where in Australia you're from, but here in Sydney the term "subway", meaning underground walkway, is in common use, and has been for decades - particularly by the railways. --Gene_poole (talk) 07:44, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree, subway is a common British and Australian English term for underground pedestrian walkway.Quaidy (talk) 03:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
