Not every direction is uphill from Nashville.
editParagraph 2 of the article leads with the claim "It is apparently uphill in any direction out of Nashville". Not so. The Cumberland River flows (downhill, naturally!) in a somewhat north-westerly direction out of Nashville. In addition, "uphill" is a little strong for travel south-east to Murfreesboro which, being only some 30 feet higher in elevation than Nashville, would have a mean increase of less than 1 foot elevation for each mile of distance.
