Just putting this out there, this article is both terribly outdated and horribly sourced. I'd fix it but I don't have the time or knowledge of Wikicode to do it. --207.188.236.196 (talk) 17:26, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
COMMENT
editI hail from one of the villages of Natanz. I wish to say a few words and invite anybody who is well versed on the subject to give some comments on the etymolgy of the name of Natanz and its villages. They can reach me via "makalmu@yahoo.com" My comments:
1- I think the name KARKAS here does not mean vulture but it denotes "kar-kassi" which means the stronghold or the borough or the castle or the town of the kassites or cassites. 1 A - Probably Natanz was visited by one of the Assyrian kings in 8 century b.c.
2- It is amazing, I have never heard about the martyrdom of Darius III taking place around Natanz. I have heard many enlightening annecdotes about the history and culture of the place by the locals but never about Daruis III. Could you kindly provide your sources pls?
3- As is written in the Iranian national mythology (shahnameh)Darius III was not murdered by Eskandare Maghduni's (Alexander the Macedonian) troops, but by a treacherous officer of Darius. Alexander had this officer killed.
4- The shrine's name is that of "Abdus - Samad" I would be thankful to receive any comments on my request. Thankful to any guidance and help forwarded,Ellied.
- 1) vulture? In the hills surrounding Abyaneh, it is said to still exist towers used by the zoroastrians to expose the corpses to be devoured by vultures. Could this be the origin of the name for Kuh-e-Karkas? Siffler 17:26, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
population = ???
edithi Ellied - i haven't worked on the Natanz page except for edits about the population and the threatened US/Israeli attack.
Could you put in an up-to-date estimate of the population? i put 3000 from the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica - but of course this is very old.
BTW (by the way), you are most welcome to write a farsi version of this page: just write:
[[fa:NATANZ]]
at the bottom of the page, but instead of NATANZ write this in farsi script - wikipedia will store this in unicode coding. Then preview and save and you will see a farsi link at the left. Click on this link and then write the version in farsi. Boud 01:13, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
