Notable individuals
editMaybe this section should go on the quizbowl page? Maybe it deserves its own page? What do people think? SamuelRiv (talk) 07:15, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- The Matt Weiner paragraph was deleted without justification. My philosophy in these cases is to default to having more information available, not less, so I undid it. I'd like to discuss this, however, as Weiner clearly deserves mention. SamuelRiv (talk) 14:23, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- My two bits: I don't have a problem with including notable individuals, however, here is something to think about:
1. If you keep it on this page, it would include only persons who had notable NAQT performances. I don't see anything wrong with that.
2. If you put it on the Quizbowl page, or start a new page, that means that anyone whom any editor can justify to the wikipedia community as a whole will be on there ..... this potentially includes the entire NAC Hall-of-Fame, anyone who is the leading scorer for their 4th place CBI regional team, etc.
My opinion, keep it here, and find citations to support the people who are included. LonelyBeacon (talk) 17:39, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- (copied from my talk page) Fair enough. I was a bit quick in adding the section (and it was 2am!), so I didn't get much on sources or NPOV. For now, I'll keep the section, neutralify Weiner's statement (it was amazing to see it firsthand, though. Maybe I haven't been in the circuit long enough), and delete authorlinks so people don't think individual articles need to be written. Thanks for the kind responses. Matt Weiner did not defeat Michigan in 2005. Michigan finished the tournament undefeated, and VCU and Michigan did not play each other. Randy Blackamoor (talk) 21:54, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, sorry, they played in an exhibition match at the very end. That obviously was not clear (since they were in separate divisions). I'll fix that. SamuelRiv (talk) 22:17, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry for the revert, but "Erik Mukherjee is the future of quiz bowl" is quite far from any kind of NPOV or verifiability. Was this edit to prove a point? If so, then why have a WP:NOTE at all? SamuelRiv (talk) 22:26, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, my reason given for deleting the Matt Weiner information was incorrect. He did that in 2006, not 2005. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stonedinvenice (talk • contribs) 23:02, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately the results of that exhibition match are not on the NAQT website. Nor are they anywhere online, for that matter. I will tag the blurb about the match until I can get a verifiable source (I will contact NAQT). Also, if you think information is incorrect, why delete it? Why not change it? SamuelRiv (talk) 23:21, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Hey, let me make this clear: There was no exhibition match or any other kind of match between VCU and Michigan A at NAQT ICT in 2005. You have no idea what you're talking about, and you should not be editing this article. Randy Blackamoor (talk) 06:26, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- I was there, at Tulane, in 2005... unless I'm not remembering correctly, at the end of the tournament there was a match on stage between MI-A and VCU moderated by some NAQT official that preceded the award ceremony. Weiner won by about 80pts, though I can't remember correctly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SamuelRiv (talk • contribs) 06:30, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
I was just alerted to this page, and I am dropping by to tell you that I did not play Michigan A at NAQT in 2005, and in fact did play Michigan B, to whom I lost. You should probably leave the quizbowl pages to those of us who can remember or research such things accurately. And this is why Wikipedia sucks! Matthew weiner vcu quizbowl (talk) 06:42, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- Right, that data's available from the NAQT website. Except there definitely was a final exhibition match involving a one-man team. But whatever, it was a long time ago, so I'll drop the issue until I can find better sourcing. SamuelRiv (talk) 07:13, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- uh, how are you still justifying this? Matt Weiner just said it didn't happen. Why do you insist on including this spurious fact? Also, I said that the particular source I cited was incorrect, but i didn't say I was incorrect. I'm taking out the fact, and please leave it alone. If Matt Weiner suddenly decides that he did play that match, he can change it himself.
- I am seconding the notion that Matt Weiner did not play Michigan A at all during the 2005 ICT, nor did he play Michigan A in an exhibition match. I was on said Michigan A team, and we played no exhibition matches at all before, during, or after winning the tournament. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.250.99.168 (talk) 11:18, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Issues
editAmong other things, this article seems to somewhat overstate NAQT's important in quizbowl. Also, it feels like there is an excess of information about minor eligibility rules. --Prisencolinensinainciusol (talk) 07:38, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
- Could you be more specific? TheStickMan[✆Talk] 13:58, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
