Criteria for Notable Projects
editWhat is the criteria for the "noteworthy projects" listed on this page? No citations are currently provided, nor is any criteria for why (or why not) a particular project would be noted in this list. Without criteria and sources, this looks like publicity from the organization. Morskyjezek (talk) 12:11, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
Some new "noteworthy projects" have been added. These look fine, but there is still a need for criteria to justify inclusion in these examples, as previously noted. Morskyjezek (talk) 04:33, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Would it make sense instead to list NEH-funded projects which have won awards? --Mragsdale (talk) 19:13, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
That could be one way to identify significant projects, but such a list would likely be rather unwieldy (too long, how would all prizewinners be identified, and would any prize qualify or only major prizes?). At this point, I would suggest removing the "noteworthy" section because it is too subjective and does not accurately provide a picture of NEH's activities. Another option would be to use the criteria for notably "unique" projects, which have been listed in the NEH's records schedule (control no. at National Archives: NC1-288-80-02):
- the grant established a precedent for changing Endowment procedures,
- the grant was the subject of extensive litigation,
- the grant received widespread attention from the news media,
- the grant was widely recognized for its excellence by scholars and others active in the humanities, or
- the grant was reviewed at length in the narrative portions of the Endowment's annual report.
