Talk:National League Cup (football)

All other football competitions have article names which are their official (i.e. unsponsored) name - does this tournament actually have an official unsponsored name? And if so, should that name be where the article is located? ChrisTheDude 08:04, 27 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I had a similar conversation a week ago actually. You can read it here. Ignore the first comment, start from the second one under that heading, by CharlieT. The conclusion we basically reached was that we can't find an unsponsored name for this competition, though I speculated about it, given it's history. You'd have to read this actual article for more info. on that, but this is technically the Conference Challenge Cup, I believe, though I think that the Conference administrators are likely to announce that this is a new competition, and not the Challenge Cup, given the chequered history of the last Cup. If that is true, then we can't even call it the Challenge Cup - we just don't know at this time.
That was a bit of a half-answer, really - a bit of an "I don't know" - but feel free to look into it and rename the article if you can find the true name of this competition. For the time being, though, I regard it to be the Setanta Shield, nothing else. Falastur2 13:23, 27 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is basically the Conference League Cup. Does it really deserve an article of its own? If so, extended reference needs to be made to the first incarnation of a Conference League Cup, the "Bob Lord Trophy" which existed for over a decade (and included the clubs from the three feeder divisions for two or three seasons in the last 1980s). - fchd 19:04, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I can't see why this competition shouldn't have an article. There are numerous articles about other competitions involving clubs from lower down the league system - the FA Vase and FA Trophy for example, and even such petty competitions as the London Senior Cup, and the Manchester Senior Cup which is usually these days mainly contested by reserve teams. If they deserve their own articles, I'm not sure why this one shouldn't.
As for the research - you're probably right, but I don't know if I'm the man to do it. I hit on a load of info about the last incarnation of the CLC by chance, and felt an unusual urge to write an article (I say this not because I don't think it's notable, but because I never write articles), but I never knew anything about the Bob Lord Trophy, and I'm not sure I could find it, either. If you gave me the info I could probably put it into prose, but I seriously don't know where I'd start on actually looking into it myself. Falastur2 00:26, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
You're right - it is the Conference League Cup. I'll try to make some edits to correct it accordingly. Falastur2 22:00, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

How can a competition that has run for only 1 year have 3 teams that have won it twice and a different current champion (i.e at least 7 previous competitions)? I assume this is a cut and paste error from elsewhere but It may be worthwhile someone who knows more about lower league football checking the info in the table. The article is in reconstruction - I recently realised that this competition is actually the most recent iteration of a Cup which has in recent years gone through several cancelled-reestablished cycles, and is actually in something like its 23rd season. The only problem is that I have limited information and time/effort, so I'm not in a great position to correct the article. I'll try to make the corrections to make this competition's history more clear (and representative of the past couple of decades), but in truth I'm really praying that some non-league guru with a better knowledge will step in and help out. I really can't do this article justice on my limited knowledge. Falastur2 17:39, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rather than assuming that the GLS Cup, Setanta Shield and Bob Lord Trophy are one and the same, perhaps they should be seperated within a 'Miscellaneous Conference Tournaments' topic. The Bob Lord Trophy, the trophy not the competition, was handed out to the Conference play-off winners each season, and it was assumed that the BLT competition itself was actually retired as a result. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.20.146.18 (talk) 14:20, 18 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
