Off-topic external links
editSkeezix1000 persuaded me that off-topic external links like the ones below were an unhelpful addition to Library and Archives Canada (LAC); and consequently, I've moved them from the NLA article as well -- see Talk:Library and Archives Canada#Off-topic external links.
- NLA
National Preservation Office---> NLA Preservation Policy & Planning- British Library (BL), BL National Preservation Office
- Library and Archives Canada/Bibliothèque et Archives Canada (LAC/BAC), LAC Gatineau Preservation Centre, BAC Centre de préservation de Gatineau (français)
- National Library of New Zealand (NLNZ), NLNZ National Preservation Office
- Library of Congress (LOC), LOC Preservation Directorate
In this context, I see the following citation as plausibly relevant to improved articles about ANL, LAC, etc.:
- The need for national entities like the National Preservation Office (NPO) in the British Library has been documented in surveys conducted by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Section on Preservation & Conservation and by the Ligue Internationale des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherches. Other than the United Kingdom, at least seven other countries have set up an entity similar to the NPO, including Canada and New Zealand.<:ref>[:http://www.ifla.org/IV/ifla63/63foom.htm Foot, Mirjam. (1997) "Paper: Towards a National Preservation Policy,"] 63rd IFLA General Conference (Copenhagen).<:/ref>
Nevertheless, Skeezix1000 has convinced me that adding off-topic external links was an unworkable gesture. Maybe there is still some way to build on misplaced good intentions ...? --Tenmei (talk) 02:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Info box style
editThe current infobox style is set to 'government agency', I think it would be worth altering this to 'library' to bring it into line with the Library of Congress, Bibliothèque nationale de France, etc. Thoughts? Veloxsilentium (talk) 06:01, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
help needed
editHi, working in the German WP, found an article about the Curti baronets only in the Australian library. Asked, but they cannot send copies to oversea, due to... I dont know which reg's. Someone able to order it inside Australia and send me a digital copy via email? Do you have to pay for or is it free of charge? It will be used for a person WP article of the middle-age english german baronet William Curti (first details Curti-Schloss here) and an article too for my work in the museum society of my city. Best Regards --Commander-pirx (talk) 10:18, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- Problem solved - thanks for the support - I like you and your country - some news found for my article - Best regards --Commander-pirx (talk) 07:34, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Agency overview
editHi I work at the National Library of Australia working in the Public Programs Division and would like to get the whole article up-to-date. I hope to do this over time. I will start by updating some of the information in the Agency overview. JudithLibrarian (talk) 04:59, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- That would be great. However, please note that you need to take care than the material is neutrally worded given that you have a connection with the topic (if you haven't read it already, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and especially the WP:INSIDE part of this page, may be useful), and is either your own wording or something which has been released into the public domain. Welcome to Wikipedia by the way! Regards, Nick-D (talk) 11:07, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Collaborative resource discovery services
editI would like to update and/or possibly restructure section 5, since some of these collaborative services have been decommissioned/absorbed into Trove (eg Picture Australia, Australia Dancing). Thoughts? JudithLibrarian (talk) 03:05, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- Go for it. But note that you should stick as much as possible to things that can be cited to reliable sources (publications or official web sites). McKay (talk) 03:10, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll ensure all facts are cited. JudithLibrarian (talk) 04:35, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
NLA Publishing
editHi, I have just added the above to external links. In the future I may add a section in the article as the NLA publishes award winning books, and reprints/publishes important Australian children's books ie. books by penny olsen, ellis rowan (based on her pictures), Stephanie Reeder, Ethel Turner, Leslie Rees, the Outhwaites, Jane Jolly (and these are just the ones presently available!). And maybe spinout to a standalone article. Any comments? thanks. Coolabahapple (talk) 05:42, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Infobox change
editThis was proposed in 2011 but when I came across the article today I too thought the infobox should be changed from {{Infobox government agency}} to {{Infobox library}}. Currently, the collection and employee statistics are awkwardly implemented within the GA infobox. All this information could be more concisely summarised in the library version. The only information which could not be included in the new infobox would be the preceding agency and the parent agency, but more relevant information such as the type of items collected and access requirements could be included. Triptothecottage (talk) 11:51, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
- Support, the nla is a library so the article should use the library infobox, being an agency of the oz government does not usurp it's primary role of being a library (it is a statutory corporation with its own powers, board and so on), just like the abc and sbs are broadcasters, the nma is a museum, the nga and npg are galleries etc, etc, etc:). I've gone ahead and done it – if anyone objects revert and let's have a chat. Triptothecottage (talk) 08:01, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
