English Name

edit

The text further on says that this English translation is misleading -- which it is -- so where did we get it from? From a glance at its website, the Museum itself doesn't use any English name but highlights the abbreviation MNAA. We shouldn't use a misleading name as our pagename, unless there's a convincing source for it. The collections are of pre-modern, not ancient, art. Andrew Dalby 14:16, 30 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not sure. But the English pages on the Museum's site are rather empty, so not sure how they'd prefer to translate it. The English "Ancient Art" appellation is found frequently in travel guides. (e.g. [1]). That said, "Antiga" does translate to "Ancient". Unfortunately, "Ancient" has some rather specific connotations in English culture that other languages don't. e.g. French don't confuse Ancien regime with Egyptian, Greek or Roman antiquity. The French term l'art ancien coincides with the Portuguese parameters of MNAA. Only the English might be confused, so the clarification is necessary.
