POV Issue.
editThe article seems to be a love letter for compressed natural gas vehicles. Cyclopiano (talk) 17:22, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- I will be glad to improve its NPOV, but can you be more specific? Point to some reliable sources criticizing NGVs? --Mariordo (talk) 17:55, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
This article doesn't make it clear if NGV's or vehicles converted to run on natural gas can still burn gasoline/E85 or if the conversion is a point of no return. Due to what I believe I heard was the limited range of of NGV's, it would make sense to have gasoline/E85 as a fall back fuel for longer trips, much like Plug-In Hybrids.
Well I just checked. According to this article: [1], which I added to external links, maintaining compatibility is possible but reduces efficiency and the range deduction may not be as great as I initially thought afterall. Increased use of NGV's may be more a matter of infastructure, but that would also be an argument for gasoline/E85 compatibility - You could never be stranded without access to fuel
I agree but it also doesn't tell you how natural gas works either. I need that kind of information for projects and what not. :(
Are there any special safety issues??
editI wonder if the compressed gas tank has any special risks of exploding in an auto accident. Can anyone supply details on this? Putting it in the inside end of the trunk may keep it safe in most accidents. It may also be the case that the natural gas, being lighter than air, would rise upward quickly enough to reduce the risk of igniting, as opposed to gasoline which spreads across the surface of the ground and continues to be a hazard until it has evaporated or drained away. Anyone have a good risk assessment on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.69.251.117 (talk) 02:36, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
Natural gas, ie methane has a flammability limit of about 5-15%, so won't ignite in most conditions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.6.208.226 (talk) 12:10, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
Incorrect picture of CNG in trunk
editThat picture of a "Typical CNG gas tank..." in the Storage and Transport section is not a CNG tank. It's an LPG (essentially propane) tank. There's a big difference, as a CNG tank is relatively high pressure (~3600psi) and LPG is much lower (~100). Pardon the lack of login and so on, as I'm an avid reader but not yet a contributor (I guess I am now!). I can fix this later, if someone doesn't beat me to it.67.43.140.22 (talk) 18:01, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
==Believe it to be generally accepted that natural gas burning engines wear piston rings and valves more quickly than gasoline burning engines.----
Range
editAt first glance, the price of a retrofit tank is shockingly high, several hundred USD for one that stores the equivalent of five gallons of gasoline. This article doesn't mention this sort of disadvantage of the technology. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.190.134.148 (talk) 14:49, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
--Sorry; wrong earlier about engine life ng vs gasoline. Generally accepted, amongst bus operators, that ng reduces engine life vs diesel-- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.166.166.41 (talk) 04:12, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Cost?
editWhat is the cost of natural gas per mile or kilometer driven VS gasoline or diesel? With gas prices rising, people need the information. "Example from Germany 2007, 1.319 €/L=US$7.65/gal" "Canada $5.00 ($5.64) U.S. gallon C$1.22/L 2012-03-30"gasbuddy.com--Mark v1.0 (talk) 19:19, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
Prices in Thailand
editWhen comparing CNG prices to LPG it says "in some countries such as Thailand, the retail LPG fuel is considerably cheaper in cost". This was never the case. I am owning an Altis CNG for the last 6-7 years, when I bough it in 2010, the CNG was around 10 baht per kilogram, and the LPG was around 12 baht per liter. In time, CNG prices raised faster than the LPG prices, mostly due to the fact that everybody can build its own LPG station - easy by technical and law requirements - while building a CNG station is a hell - costly, lots of safety approvals required due to high pressure, etc - therefore distribution of LPG is quite competitive, and in the private sector, while the CNG is still, mostly, monopoly. This made the nowadays prices reach from 13 baht per kilogram (Bangkok area) to 17 baht per kilogram (north of the country) for CNG and from 13 to 15 baht per liter for LPG. It may look like the LPG is cheaper, but one should consider that a car that take (say, for easy calculation) 10 liters of gasoline to drive 100Km will take about 7.5-8 kilograms of CNG to drive the same distance, and it will take about 10 to 12 liters of LPG to drive the same distance (depending on the LPG system, those with multi-point injections are more efficient). Therefore, LPG is consumed about 50% faster, which makes driving on LPG more expensive than driving on CNG, and this _including_ the (about) 10% longer distance that I have to drive additional due to non-availability of CNG stations on my current way (there were 5 in Chiang Mai, but they demolished the one close to Airport Plaza, now there are only 4, compare it with over 60 LPG stations). — Preceding unsigned comment added by LaurV (talk • contribs) 04:53, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

editI added a link to the biogas page, all though it doesn't have info on biogas vehicles though. Some experimental vehicles have all ready been made though, see the talk page post. KVDP (talk) 11:33, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
