animism

edit

"animism is the most widely followed religion" sounds wrong to me - it implies that there is an animist religion when there's almost certainly a varied range of practices and beliefs, and probably few people who would self-ascribe as "animist". Perhaps something like "animist religions are most widely spread" or something like that? -- Danny Yee 07:05, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you're probably right. I'll look up the source material. Should be "forms of animism are..." or "traditional african beliefs are.." or something. -Xed 17:29, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
The source itself may be a bit lazy here - "animism" is up there with "tribal" for misuse. -- Danny Yee 23:37, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Etymology

edit

"voro (meaning the sound of stepping onto crunchy, dry soil)" seems to be the opposite of what is given in St. John-Parsons's 'Legends of Northern Ghana'. I have a quote from this booklet at https://sites.google.com/site/ghanaplacenames/database/upper-east-2/navrongo which you may like to use. Nice article though - I think it's more than a stub!
