Dubost's Bristly Mouse → Neacomys dubosti — - Two common names have been proposed for this species—Dubost's Neacomys and Dubost's Bristly Mouse. Neither receives more than a few hits in Google, Google Books, or Google Scholar, so Neacomys dubosti is the most common name used for this species and should be used in the article title. • Support — This species may well have an authentic vernacular name or two in South America, but in the English speaking world this species is known primarily by its scientific name. --Una Smith (talk) 04:34, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
  • I'd doubt even that. It's been discovered only in 2000, is probably fairly difficult to tell apart from other Neacomys in the region without having a prepared museum specimen, and occurs deep in the forest in a sparsely populated area. From the little I've seen, Spanish-language "common names" for animals we discussed (such as Irenomys) appear to be as variable and poorly established as the English ones. It's different for recognizable and conspicuous species such as the lowland paca, of course, which usually seem to have a different name in about every country. Ucucha 04:45, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
