Talk:Neighbourhoods of Windsor, Ontario

Latest comment: 6 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified (February 2018)

Where do I begin...This article is pretty much a joke. The neighbourhood boundaries as stated in the article are pretty much arbitrary, and there's next to no information on the "neighbourhoods" themselves - most likely due to the fact that the author is basically making them up as he goes along. Certainly there are general trends in regard to geographic area, but Windsor is a small city, more of a large town really, and distinct neighbourhoods like one would find in Toronto, or even Detroit, don't really exist. Having said that however, some of the neighbourhood distinctions are valid - maybe about half.

A joke? I think not. The information here is pretty accurate about Windsor's neighbourhoods. Sure its pretty general, but most of them evolved from the towns that were amalgamated into Windsor over time. Hell, the city themselves labels many of them with street signs and other markers. 216.8.131.78 04:35, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I would like to suggest a change and I'm not a big Wiki expert. This article, titled "Bridgeview," actually describes the neighbourhood better known by residents as "University." The Bridgeview neighbourhood more accurately describes the area bounded by College Avenue to the north, California Avenue to the west, Tecumseh Road to the south and Campbell Avenue to the east. The area between Partington and California contains no through streets, a traffic-calming measure mean to keep streets safe for young children. Its homes are all detached or semi-detached three-bedroom houses and were originally constructed as public housing by the city, which made them available for subsidized lease to qualified families (low-income, at least two children). These houses were offered for sale to residents starting in the late 1960s and are now mostly in private hands. Trust me, I lived in the Bridgeview for the first 30 years of my life--it does not go north of College. 137.207.108.105 16:43, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

re:

The photo Windsordowntown.jpg isn't very good content. Can anybody get a better shot of the Detroit skyline with bits of Windsor in it? PKT 18:08, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh come on man, this is an excellent photo, how long you been away from the city? I can almost smell that toxic plastic stench that comes out of that factory on Elliott Street when I look at this picture. You know you are in Windsor when you catch that odor. I like the photo b/c that is how the Detroit skyline looks when you are in downtown, it just hangs over the cityscape, its easy to get a 'touristy' picture of the core, but nowadays things look more jagged and empty then when the ladies from Detroit poured across the border to play Bingo 24 hours a day. people who live downtown are also shown in the photo- actual Windsorites! That adds something since there are a lot of people who live in downtown and have to look down the alleys and strings of hydrowires. --Mikerussell 23:10, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ford City - where is it?

edit

This page talks about Ford City, as does the Wikipedia page for Ford City itself.

There is agreement on the western and nothern boundaries, but there is not agreement on the eastern and southern boundaries. First, both articles should agree, or one set of information should be deleted. Second, if the boundaries are fuzzy, that should be indicated. Third, if the boundaries have changed over time, that information would be helpful.

And actually, the boundaries given in this article don't make sense. You can't get to Chandler from Riverside Drive.
