Founder
editAccording to the prospectus for the North British Locomotive Company in the Times in 1903 the company was founded by James Beaumont Neilson under the name Neilson & co in Hydepark Street, Glasgow in 1837. When it moved to Springburn in 1859 Walter Montgomerie Neilson was then the senior partner. James Reid returned to the company in 1863 after being manager of Sharp, Stewart & Co of Manchester. For many years Mr Reid was sole partner and since his death in 1894 his four sons have run the firm. {{Cite newspaper The Times |articlename=Charities, &c.
