I don't think that's a honey bee in the picture labelled "honey bee" (Hymenoptere2.jpg) - I'm no expert but it looks more like a solitary bee, perhaps a megachilid — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.31.204.118 (talk) 10:51, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Neoptera/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

The taxonomy used here is the predominate view amongst entomology systematists (as seen on the ToL website). These are tentative groupings, but they are generally held to be the consensus opinion. The italics used for some of the higher-level Holometabola are clearly not used to indicate a generic rank, but merely the most visually pleasing way I could think of to show their position in the group. The previously used taxonomy on this page was woefully inadequate and even inaccurate (e.g. Dictyoptera). Please do not revert back to it again without first discussing reasons for doing so.

The first split seems unconsistent with its source

Phylogeny

The phylogeny has been edited by User:Nikita-Kluge with the edit comment

I note that the statement implies that the phylogeny

a) includes the first names given to clades, whether or not these are used today, on "the principle of priority";

b) is based on "the whole world literature", i.e. is a WP:SYNTHESIS, rather than based on any specific recent source.

The opinions of other editors are invited on how this phylogeny (indeed, any phylogeny) should be constructed here on Wikipedia. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:56, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
