Neptune City v. Neptune
editNeptune City is very often confused with the neighboring Township of Neptune. As this is extremely common should a note be placed at the top of the page? PeterMottola 22:04, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Mysterious Graveyard
editHi! I live in Neptune City & was wondering if anyone had any info on the strange graveyard located between Munchies & the old Shop&Bag. If anyone wants to see it then contact me on aim: cod4baller--72.68.100.76 (talk) 04:17, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Notable Residents
editDespite the title of her album, Nicole Atkins lived in Neptune Township, not Neptune City. It's reasonable to assume she spent a great deal of time in Neptune City as most people who live in that part of New Jersey travel between towns to work, go to school, shop and recreate. Please see [1] and note where she is quoted as saying, "But the neighborhood I live in is called Shark River -- it's part of Neptune -- I live right across the street from the river, and there's a bird sanctuary. There's tons of beautiful herons, swans, and geese." This is a reference to Shark River Hills, which is in Neptune. She is also quoted in this interview [2]: "I'm from Neptune, New Jersey. Which explains why we're doing a photo shoot in rural North Carolina!" The New York Times listing from June 2007 did not interview Atkins directly and should not be considered a reliable source. - There are multiple sources establishing Neptune City as Atkins' hometown. Sources need not be interviews to be reliable, and the sources could not be any clearer in establishing the connection. Nor have I seen any source that places Atkins in Neptune Township. Alansohn (talk) 04:13, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- Have to remove Atkins. Sources listed do not quote her as saying she lived in Neptune City. Per our discussion on your talk page (in which you also acknowledged seeing things that were dead wrong and knowing it because of firsthand knowledge - such being the case here), please read this New Jersey Monthly article from July.[3] She is quoted specifically as saying "I grew up in Neptune...". Not Neptune City. Also, please read my entry on the album Neptune City, where I wrote, with a detailed source, about the origin of the album's title. It is this title that several lazy writers have used as the basis for their assertion that Atkins grew up in Neptune City, without ever asking her to confirm it. Again, she is quoted on the record as saying she grew up in Neptune. This can't be any clearer.

"Growing up in Neptune, Nicole Atkins wrote songs, searching for a way to blend country and '60s rock...“I grew up in Neptune in a mostly Sicilian family,” she says. “Everyone listened to a lot of oldies rock-n-roll like Frankie Valli and the Everly Brothers...Her home base is still Asbury Park, and she says she’s regularly back with the family in Neptune “doing lots of laundry.”"
