History

edit

Most of the lede belongs in a "History" section. Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 16:44, 16 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

For more on history, here are some topics to consider:
  • Is any pre-history known or at least pre-Roman history?
  • This webpage mentions that a large Roman castra (a military installation) was found nearby: http://www.1911encyclopedia.org/Neuwied More on the Romans: http://www.neuwied.de/unesco-world-heritage-site-limes.html?&L=1
  • Since there's no separate article for this Langendorf, include information about it.
  • The effects of European wars on the city. Unfortunately, wars didn't end when the Thirty Years War did.
  • The exodus of so many citizens to North America in the 18th century, the Palatines - causes and effect on the city?

Dubious

edit

Edited the following assertion, which was already flagged as dubious: "In April 1797 the French, under General Louis Lazare Hoche, defeated the Austrians near Neuwied, this being their first decisive success in the French Revolutionary Wars." It now reads: "In April 1797 the French, under General Louis Lazare Hoche, defeated the Austrians near Neuwied." The original assertion was both uncited and incorrect. The battle was a French victory, but it was neither decisive nor was it the first French decisive victory of the French Revolutionary Wars. Djmaschek (talk) 19:40, 23 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
