Conflict of Interest
editThis article is clearly written by somebody connected with the subject publication. The promotional tone gives that away early on, but the use of the first person in the next-to-last paragraph removes any possible doubt:
- We report news and information at the local, state, national and international levels that affect the African American community. Our main distribution area is Hampton Roads, Va.
The article cites no sources except the paper's own web site. It claims continuity with the historic Norfolk Journal and Guide, but offers no explanation for the addition of "New" to the paper's name, and no evidence of continuity of ownership, editorship, staff, or any other significant feature of the original publication.
The original Journal and Guide was an important Southern institution, and played a vital role in the life of the black community during times of great hardship and great change. It should have its own article, and if the New Journal and Guide is its true successor, that paper should be covered by the same article. If not, query whether the New Journal and Guide is sufficiently notable to merit an article of its own?
Sources
editCreating article about P. B. Young and found this article, its COI tag, and concerns expressed in 2013. Perhaps I will work on this article later and wanted to start a list of sources for consideration. Also, it's possible we'll want to start an article about Brenda H. Andrews, so I'm including some sources for her, too.
