This article contains out of date information. The number of monks given is factually wrong.

This statement: "There were 65 claims of abuse made about New Norcia, of which 26 were about a single perpetrator. The Catholic Church paid victims $869,000 in compensation" is also extremely out of date. The statement "The Catholic Church paid victims $869,000 in compensation" is meaningless, as the Catholic Church is not a legal entity. Do the mean "The monastic community of New Norcia" or the "Archdiocese of Perth", or another entity?

This text: "Brother Dominic "Goofy" Benedict allegedly took indecent photographs of boys and measured one student's penis with a tape measure," reports an allegation/anecdote made by a single person (who himself was accused of abuse), which has not resulted in formal charges. It seems distasteful and possibly libellous to include it.

I made edits correcting these problems, but they were reversed, and I was accused of vandalism.

Mission

edit

It seems from the article that no good came of the mission, is that true? Are modern events better? Will we be vilified, we ought to be. 2A00:23C6:F680:2C01:BCB5:2E42:6D2E:1E24 (talk) 08:43, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
