Merger

If the list of species were replaced with a sortable table including range information (e.g. true/false field for North and South America), the corresponding section in List of North American birds could be moved here, helping with the split of that list. After 5 months, it would seem that nobody wishes to do this. If the proposal would seriously help the list of NA birds then I could see why someone would go to the effort. However the effect on that article would be so miniscule that it would serve the same purpose as Homer Simpson trying to lose weight by shaving his head. Op47 (talk) 22:57, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Decolonization of natural history

Given the vulnerable status of most Odontophorids in Central America and South America, it is counterproductive to refer members of this family as New World Quail. Odontophoridae literally describes their “toothed” bills. In the interests of collaborative conservation efforts with indigenous populations and native inhabitants of the Western Hemisphere, the term Toothed Quail should replace New World Quail.

As latest molecular and osteological data on galliformes reveals that the toothed quails probably evolved from curassows, during the Oligocene, their evolutionary convergence with true quails (Coturnixinae) is all the more remarkable. 2601:187:C080:A6C0:498A:DDFB:4F20:8B55 (talk) 06:20, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
