The Number of People Involved
editAccording to this, 23 enslaved people were involved in the New York Slave Revolt of 1712, and 6 of them committed suicide to avoid capture. In total, 70 Black people were arrested to calm the situation. Of these, 27 were put on trial, and 21 of the 27 were executed.
Is this correct?
This would mean that 4 of the 27 people put on trial were unrelated to the initial group of 23 enslaved individuals involved in the revolt, possibly drawn from the 70 arrested. These 4 individuals were either executed, freed, or may have committed suicide. So, the total would be 6 who died by suicide and 21 who were executed.
Could this discrepancy be due to the sources, or am I misunderstanding something? Ju224 (talk) 04:50, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
