Talk:Nielsen ratings/Archives/2017

Unclear wording

I don't understand this part of this part of a sentence: "out of all television-equipped households, 9.2% were tuned in to that program, and out of all television-equipped households with a television currently in use, 15% were tuned in to that program." I understand the separate words, but the sentence is meaningless. Should I have some kind of additional knowledge before it becomes understandable? What is the difference between a "television-equipped household" and a "television-equipped hosehold with a television currently in use"? So there are two kinds of households - the first have a television but it is not in use, the second does have it in use. So the first household has their television turned off during the show? How can it produce any kind of viewing result at all if nobody is using it? Very unclear.--62.65.224.128 (talk) 21:30, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

The sentence describes the difference between two statistics: the percentage of households who HAVE a television that watching a show and the percentage of houses that HAVE A TELEVISION TURNED ON that are watching a show. The second figure factors out households that have a TV but aren't watching TV. ----Dr.Margi 22:01, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
