Scope and interlang issue
editThe scope of the ningyo article should obviously be limited to "Japanese merfolk" only.
However, the word ningyo (人魚) is not just a special world for the Japanese ningyo, it is a generic word for merfolk/mermaid world-wide, and the current ja:人魚 article reflects this.
Therefore interlang linking ja:ningyo<->en:ningyo is a mismatch, and ja:ningyo<->en:mermaid will be more correct. --Kiyoweap (talk) 09:43, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
Toriyama Sekien drawing
editI do not think the Toriyama Sekien drawing used here is applicable, because the captions indicate a Chinese merfolk. (File:SekienNingyo.gif added here by user:Kotengu, later replaced with File:SekienNingyo.jpg ぎゅうひ).
The caption is translated here.[1] "Dwells to the West of the World Tree (Chinese: 建木 Jianmu).. from the realms of the Di (Chinese: 氐人國)". This mermaid-like "Ti people" "Di people" "Diren" is recorded in the Classic of Mountains and Seas, though I have not found the English translated text for the moment, only a mention in this blog[2]. --Kiyoweap (talk) 10:08, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
Format needs editing
editFirst I saw what looks like broken links. I attempted but failed to correct as I saw inconsistencies in formatting and couldn’t figure out how to correctly format. Still too inexperienced. Spay/Neuter (talk) 07:37, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
