Fair use rationale for Image:Ninja Gaiden (Game Gear).PNG
editImage:Ninja Gaiden (Game Gear).PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

editThis game did get released outside of Japan, right? So why does this one IP-Hopper keep saying it wasn't? Crboyer (talk) 04:19, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
- The reference seems to be clear here; I'd expect the IP user to provide at least one reference *against* that instead of vandalizing like this... I'll ask for semi-protection again. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:57, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

- Note: Ninja Gaiden (1991 video game) titles a page with significant content and so is ineligible to be a target "new" title unless it is also proposed to be renamed. This request has been altered to reflect that fact. P.I. Ellsworth ed. put'r there 05:16, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

- There were several releases in 1991, that should remain a disambiguation page. - MrOllie (talk) 13:30, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- As mentioned in the edit page, there was only ONE game originally released in 1991.--CoolingGibbon (talk) 13:44, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Perhaps you've forgotten Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom, also a 1991 game? SnowFire (talk) 14:19, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- User:SnowFire, that game is not titled as simply "Ninja Gaiden". There would be already be a difference between Ninja Gaiden (1991 video game) and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom. The default article for "Ninja Gaiden (1991 video game)" should be the Game Gear version, because that is the one that needs to be disambiguated, not Ninja Gaiden III. Though a note and link to the Game Gear version on Ninja Gaiden III's article should suffice. --CoolingGibbon (talk) 16:00, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

- This isn't really the place for extended discussion. I suggest converting both requests into RMs by clicking the "discuss" buttons. Lennart97 (talk) 16:02, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support only game titled Ninja Gaiden that originally came out that year. Ninja Gaiden 3 is a separate game with a different title so it shouldn’t be a factor.--70.24.249.16 (talk) 18:40, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support Games should only be disambiguated by year of first release, no matter what country it was. Disambiguation page should be deleted as unnecessary.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 06:29, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose, also Discussion needs to include all the reverts of Ninja Gaiden titles made by OP -
- Using the title Ninja Gaiden (1991 video game) for any single article fails to meet Wikipedia's criteria for unambiguity, as there are no less than six Ninja Gaiden games with 1991 release dates. Per WP:NCVGDAB #2.4, prefer disambiguating the game article by its platform. And the 1991 title, which is ambiguous, was pointed to an SIA for the benefit of the reader. (It could be retargetted to LIst of Ninja Gaiden video games if that is ever made)
- Additionally, having this discussion without also discussing Ninja Gaiden (1990 video game) (another SIA article with the same purpose and rationale made at the same time and which was ALSO reverted by the OP) is tragically missing the mark.
- And in my opinion, Ninja Gaiden (1992 video game) should be moved back Ninja Gaiden (Master System) per WP:NCVGDAB #2.4, which is another thing that was reverted by the OP and should be part of this discussion which is beyond just the one title of this one Game Gear article. - Also, and this is a side note, I don't really appreciate how this was basically a series of multiple reverts of my edits across multiple titles by the OP and yet nobody pinged me or asked me about it at any time. The only reason I even found out about it is because the revert war by OP put the 1991 title back in the review queue and I got a notification when it was reviewed since I have the first edit...... - Oppose per previous comments. In general, year is the best disambiguator, yes, but these articles are the 0.2% commonsense exceptions. Year is an unusually bad disambiguator here because Ninja Gaiden III and Ninja Gaiden Shadow are also 1991 games, and there's a 1992 game also called "Ninja Gaiden" that casual readers may not recall which year was which at easy memory (as a reminder, this is almost 30 years ago! Quick, did The Crying Game come out in 1991 or 1992, without checking?). The main distinctiveness of these similarly titled, similar year-of-release games is platform. If there's truly a desire to use year, at least use the platform as well - some reader looking at search box autocompletions seeing Ninja Gaiden (1991 video game) and Ninja Gaiden (1992 video game) won't know which game is which, but Ninja Gaiden (1991 Game Gear game) and Ninja Gaiden (1992 Master System game) will at least be clear, if a compromise is desired. SnowFire (talk) 21:57, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. Ninja Gaiden (1991 video game) is seriously ambiguous, and its only proper destination is a DAB. Andrewa (talk) 20:09, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
