Fairey Battle?
editThe Fairey Battle page claims 12 Squadron RAAF (and RAF just to confuse things) operated Battles. My grandfather was an intelligence officer with 12 Squadron and has pictures of Battles. But this page [1] makes no mention of it. Anyone know for sure?220.233.65.12 (talk) 23:51, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, checking the Units of the RAAF source, there's no mention of Battles, nor are they described as serving with 12 Sqn on the aircraft's RAAF Museum page, nor in the aircraft's ADF-Serials page (which only mentions the RAF squadron). So while I can't speak for what your grandfather may have witnessed, I think the WP Fairey Battle page is incorrect. Even if 12 Sqn RAAF did happen to have a Battle or two attached for training or communications purposes (as some squadrons had the odd Moth or Wirraway) it certainly wasn't a 'Battle squadron'. - I'm pretty sure that the RAAF only used Battles in its training units (where they were apparently quite successful). That material in the Fairey Battle article was unreferenced, so I've removed it. As Ian notes, some may have been used by this unit as squadron 'hacks' or for communications purposes, but a reference is needed. Nick-D (talk) 02:32, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
