RAAF Base Darwin or RAAF Station Darwin

edit

What was the name for RAAF Base Darwin in 1964 when the squadron was based there? Ozdaren (talk) 10:47, 26 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

It was RAAF Base Darwin. They were called RAAF Stations from the mid-1930s until around 1952 and thereafter RAAF Bases. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 11:02, 26 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks I was trying to figure out when the change occurred, I couldn't find a reference anywhere for it. I had assumed it was around the time of the Vietnam War (the US influence). Ozdaren (talk) 01:43, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
My concrete ref for the timing is a tiny bit oblique. Derek Roylance's Air Base Richmond (1991) lists all commanders of the base. They're listed under "RAAF Station Richmond" until 1952, at which point it becomes "Headquarters Richmond", and an additional list starts up for commanders of "Base Squadron". Somewhere else I've seen that all "stations" changed to "bases" around this time as well, I just can't find it right now... ;-)Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 07:35, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Mel Hepfeld

edit

The Air Power Development Centre has made a slight error/typo in regard to Hepfeld's service. Hepfeld is the current Air Commander Australia, having been appointed to the position on promotion to air vice marshal in February 2012 (see his Defence bio). The years given, 2009–12, were the years he headed Air Combat Group. Figured I'd best leave the tweaking to you, Ian. ;) Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 08:38, 1 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tks mate, glad you're keeping an eye on things -- I'll look after it. Did you let APDC know? If not I'm happy to... Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 09:16, 1 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Cheers Ian. Admitedly I have been a little slack and haven't emailed APDC about it. But if you wouldn't mind that would be excellent, thanks. Abraham, B.S. (talk) 06:21, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
