Notability

edit

The subject appears notable to me. There's coverage in Exclaim!: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] He's been the subject of coverage on CBC Radio 3: [8] There's coverage in Chart (magazine) [9] and an Allmusic review [10]. Also a little coverage in the Toronto Star (25 July 2002, p. G3). Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:57, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough - how about adding these sources to the article and clearing out the cruft? Jezhotwells (talk) 04:50, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I'll see what I can do... Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:55, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Suggested merge of CRUNK23 to Noah23

edit

Senator2029 has suggested merging CRUNK23 to this page. I support this merger, since much of the content from CRUNK23 is already at Noah23 already, and I'm doubtful that CRUNK23 would survive an WP:AfD on notability grounds. --Hobbes Goodyear (talk) 17:31, 13 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I went ahead and did this. Wetdogmeat (talk) 20:25, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links, images, or media files (Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not). And Wikipedia does not attempt to document or provide links to every part of the subject's web presence or provide readers with a handy list of all social networking sites (Wikipedia:External links#Minimize the number of links).
Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links (Wikipedia:External links#Important points to remember).
Noah23's Bandcamp, Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook pages are already linked from his Discogs page. So I removed them. 122.29.70.250 (talk) 07:09, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
 • Thank you for explaining. I understand your removal of the profusion, but in the process you've removed all links to his web presence completely. I've looked at them, and the Tumblr link seems closest to what a reader would expect to find on a "noah23.com" site, if one existed, so I've added that one back. --Hobbes Goodyear (talk) 10:18, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Editing conflicts

edit

Dear mystery editor, the information you are repeatedly adding/'correcting' is WRONG. Noah23 is NOT retired as of 2011, he is currently recording his new album and it will be out early next year (https://twitter.com/theNoah23/status/240619479204245504). He has NEVER collaborated with Blue Sky Black Death, and a link from 'Orphan' to their page perfectly explains who he is, and it's not even in the main body of the article. Likewise, links from 'Yukon Dawn' or 'Crunk Chris' to a page that immediately explains exactly who Yukon Dawn or Crunk Chris are is certainly as intuitive as possible (in the absense of dedicated pages), as per the Wiki guidelines. Plague Language does NOT function as a record label anymore, contra Discogs (I submitted that info), if a label is necessarily a business of some kind, as opposed to a phrase some associated artists occasionally include on their album art, by which logic the likes of Wu-Tang Records would have to be considered an active label (because the W still features all over Wu-related releases). Based on Wikipedia's entry on record labels, it's the former (labels are businesses), so the fact that recent Plague Language affiliate Spz Chaote has been putting the 'PL' symbol on his album art (http://f0.bcbits.com/z/91/38/913870551-1.jpg), for instance, doesn't mean the Plague Language label still exists, as it did from 2000-2004. Please see Jay-Z#Discography, Eminem#Discography, The Roots#Discography, etc, etc, etc, for formatting precedent for collaborations. Please see literally any other article about a rapper on Wikipedia for examples of people who are "better known by their stage names such-and-such" rather than "born so-and-so" - these are stage names, not actual given personal names, his name is still Noah Raymond Brickley. Please stop removing the list of Noah23's close Plague Language collaborators (Madadam, The Main, Lord Kufu, DS, etc) and leaving people he's collaborated with once or twice in his career (Buck 65, Moka Only, Awol One, etc) simply because they have Wiki pages. The linking of the singles to the respective album pages is not 'easter egg' linking, as the singles' tracklists are on those pages. And why are you inexplicably removing the 'indie hip hop' tag from the infobox yet putting it back in the article body? Are you even remotely familiar with this artist? If not (and it seems not), why are you editing a page whose subject you are completely ignorant of? I'll concede the issue of the italics on the singles and I'll ask you: what's the limit on external links, and on what grounds is the Fake Four link being kept in preference to the Facebook or Twitter links? I'm reverting and correcting everything else. Wetdogmeat (talk) 19:28, 2 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

(1) Yukon Dawn is Noah23 himself and CRUNK23 will be merged, so we don't have to pipelink 'em. (2) There are too many artists in the "associated artists" section and we should remove some. (3) I removed "indie hip hop" from the infobox because indie hip hop navigates to underground hip hop#indie hip hop. (4) Unlike Jay-Z, Eminem or The Roots, Noah23 is an underground artist. And "there is obviously a wide variety of information which may be appropriate to some articles and not to others." (Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians) (5) There's no source about his middle name and birth date, so I have removed those information and just added Exclaim link. (6) Noah23 is not known as simply "Noah", as far as I know. (7) According to Discogs link, Plague Language released some digital-only albums even in 2012, and they're not free download. For example, see Noah23 bandcamp link. So it's the "business." (8) "Contemplating" is different from "considering." (9) "Guelph, Ontario" is better than "Guelph, Ontario" because Guelph, Ontario navigates to just Guelph. (10) Hip Hop Core link doesn't state Kingston's last name and that Orphan is a co-founder of the label. (11) UGSMAG link was published in 2008, not 2011. 122.29.73.239 (talk) 00:53, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
1) Fair enough, but the link to the Yukon Dawn album explains the nature of the side-project, so it should remain. 2) Is there a limit? Or is that just your own opinion? If there's a limit, fair enough, but maybe let someone who knows something about the subject decide which names to remove. 3) Yes, but you restored it to the text body in place of alternative hip hop. Indie hip hop shouldn't be merged with underground hip hop IMO, as it has very different connotations, but that's another story. 4) That is completely irrelevant to whether the parenthetical text is small or not. See the linked discogs? See the collaborative albums? Small text. 5) I've found a source before that gives his birthdate and name, I'll see if I can find it again. 6) Okay. That's his actual name, so he obviously is. But if you prefer to use 'Noah23' all through the article I don't mind. It doesn't read as smoothly IMO. 7) Again, I added that info, I listed them as Plague Language releases. In the sense that a label is a business, that info is wrong: Plague Language doesn't exist as a business anymore. At most, it exists as an imprint on Legendary Entertainment. 8) No it isn't (http://thesaurus.com/browse/contemplate). And IMO it sounds ponderous and unencyclopaedic when paraphrased. 9) Any comment on his 'retirement'? Blue Sky Black Death? "better known by" vs "born"? Linking of the singles? External links? Wetdogmeat (talk) 01:10, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Why are you repeatedly changing the phrasing of the opening sentence to "Noah23 (born Noah Brickley)"? Literally look at ANY other rapper entry on Wikipedia. My phrasing is correct. Please stop reverting it. Wetdogmeat (talk) 01:14, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
STOP summarily reverting my edits. You have NOT justified every change you're making, and the information you added/'corrected' before is STILL wrong. This is not how Wikipedia works. Wetdogmeat (talk) 01:17, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Regarding his birthday, in this interview he says he's 23 (http://ugsmag.com/2001/08/noah23/), and here's a Tweet from February 10th of this year stating it's his birthday: https://twitter.com/theNoah23/status/168068771641176064 Here's an entry from the Fake Four website from 2011 that gives his birthday: http://www.fakefourinc.com/news/201102 Here's a post from the Rap Music boards by Noah on the same day: http://board.rapmusic.com/1068115392-post1.html Regarding his middle name, here's a webzine that gives his full name: http://www.amoeba.com/music/music-we-like/2011---fall/short-list/page1.html (click 'Download It' for the pdf) Also, here's his personal Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/noah.brickley?ref=ts (which also gives his birthday). He also says his name in several of his songs, such as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxg4Sgc085Y (lyrics are there under the video if you don't want to listen). So with all that info, we have "Noah Raymond Brickley (born February 10, 1978)". This doesn't seem like it should be much of a point of contention. You made a mistake. See Wikipedia:Moving a page. 114.145.112.192 (talk) 02:55, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't trying to move the page. It's a temporary talk page for resolving the copyright issues with Noah23; it says "Please work on a substitute article below", and states that the page will be deleted when the issues are resolved. It's not permanent, hence "Temp". And it isn't a direct copy of Noah23, the contested passage has been completely reformulated and resourced. Wetdogmeat (talk) 03:31, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
You don't understand what Wikipedia:Copy-paste is. Please read Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. 114.145.112.192 (talk) 03:39, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Uh huh. It says, regarding "exceptions associated with copying and deletion", that "supplementary attribution must be provided by ... a link back to the source page". There is a link back to Noah23 from Talk:Noah23/Temp. What exactly is the content of Talk:Noah23/Temp supposed to be if not a rewritten copy of Noah23? Again - it says "Please work on a substitute article below". That's what I've done; are the copyright issues resolved or aren't they? Wetdogmeat (talk) 03:44, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
You must have linked to the source article in your edit summary.
Ragarding to copyright issues of Noah23 page, it will take a couple of days to be resolved. 114.145.112.192 (talk) 03:50, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Read WP:SUBPAGE, section "Allowed uses", point #8. This is a standard method, and despite your comments to the contrary, Talk:Noah23/Temp is not a talk page, so edits to it should not be signed. Before your edits to it, the mbox linked to the Noah23 article, providing sufficient attribution for copyright purposes. Nyttend (talk) 05:43, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Occultism

edit

Noah23 practices various forms of 0ccultism. This needs to be expanded upon, on the noah23 wiki page. Occultism is a major theme running through the corpus of his work. To him is music is an 0ccult ritual. 000 V:. 0000zzzz (talk) 01:25, 19 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
