Another name
editNorodom had a different name before he was renamed Norodom. It was something along the lines of Ang ___ (like his father Ang Duong). This also applies to Sisowath. Any editors want to look into that? --Dara (talk) 20:17, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
- It's Ang Voddey according to some French accounts. He had the name of Norodom Prohmbarirak too, but this name is very rarely used in Cambodian accounts. And this is just my romanization of the name, I don't know how it is actually romanized in English publications. Cambodian royal names have irregular pronunciations. It could have been romanized closer to Thai pronunciation as Phromborirak (note: aspirated Ph and "bor" instead of "bar"). Why the Thai pronunciation? Keep in mind his coronation was closely connected with Siam and Cambodian royalty sometimes use the pronunciation of Siamese names. Most common example is Sisowath and another example is Norodom Mayuret (this is Thai pronunciation of Mayuresh, S becomes T). --Dara (talk) 07:03, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
