Excellent work on starting this article, I thinking of doing this myself... Something which might be of interest, most if not all of the references I've seen to the freeway label it as the north-western expressway, rather than the north-west freeway... There's a great deal of info at http://www.ozroads.com.au Maudlingothic 10:50, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I know from the early naming of the F3 that the word 'Expressway' was used before 'Freeway' became the common term, so I expect that you're right.
I started the article under this name because it was the name used for it in links to a non-existant article in several other articles. If the very first name used for it was 'North-Western Expressway', then by all means, we can move it to there (leaving a redirect) and change all of the links to match. Given that it was a title, I'd use title case rather than lowercase and I'd want to work out whether the hypen belongs there or not.
The DMR map from 1988 is interesting in that the section from the end of the F3 to Epping Rd is clearly labelled as 'Lane Cove Valley Freeway', with that label extending past where the F2 corridor section joined in, so at that time the connection of the F3 was rated as more important. On the same map, the section west from that fork was labelled as the 'Castlereagh Freeway F2'. You may be aware that the name Castlereagh Highway now applies to a completely unrelated piece of road.
I'll have to have a look at that site when I have time. Gotta do my tax return today! --AtholM 22:47, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

This Article's name

edit

As a kid I lived in Ryde and moved to Baulkham Hills, and the proposed freeway was always called either the F2 or the Castlereagh Freeway. Current editions of the Sydway street directory refers to the corridor west of where the M7 suddenly turns south as 'Proposed Castlereagh Motorway'. Before this article, I never heard of the 'North Western Freeway' (or 'Expressway'). Was it ever an official name? If not, the name of this article should be changed. As mentioned in the section above, the earliest known title was the "North Western Expressway". The "F2" and "Castlereagh Freeway" names came much later - around the 1980s as far as I can find out. Neither name is wrong as such, and I've now added a link to this article from the disambiguation page F2 and a redir from Castlereagh Freeway (as distinct from Castlereagh Highway). These different names also need to go into the article. --Athol Mullen (talk) 09:01, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think Castlereagh Freeway may be better redirected at the article for the M2 Hills Motorway. Robotboy2008 (talk) 12:59, 29 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Metroad 8, Castlereagh

edit

The statement about metroad 8 appears highly speculative. If you can back it up, it can stay. If not, it really doesn't belong.

Oh, and the link to Castlereagh in Ireland doesn't belong here. Please check that links actually go where you expect! --Athol Mullen 07:47, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
