What is the point of having this article? Isn't it silly to devote an article in an encyclopedia to one not particularly important set of communications from offices of the Holy See, those that have the word "notification" in their titles, a word no more significant than the word "Notice", which is placed at the head of many communications by all sorts of entities? It is difficult to see what reason there can be for singling out those that happen to be described in this way, ignoring the more important ones that have declaration, decree or instruction as part of their titles and the no less important ones that are referred to as circular letters, directories, doctrinal notes, statutes, norms, clarifications, responses, etc. Esoglou (talk) 16:17, 13 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
- I feel your complaint is aimed more at the lack of articles about other official Catholic announcements and directions regarding canon law or practice. Feel free to start articles about those other forms. This "Notification" topic meets WP:GNG, so it deserves to exist. It is a step toward building a complete encyclopedia. - There we disagree. But let it be so. I think it silly to set up an article on any labelling of Holy See documents that in no way alters the level of authority of the documents. Does the Pope have to give his approval for the publication even of doctrinal statements of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith that are issued with the label "notification"? No, since some indicate that they have been authorized by him, others don't. Does the Pope have to give his approval for the publication of doctrinal statements of the Congregation that are issued with the label "decree"? No, since some indicate that they have been authorized by him, others don't. Of course, it is obvious that, at least normally, notifications issued by the Press Office about upcoming briefings or press conferences or how to apply for inclusion of journalists in the Pope's flight to Rio de Janeiro, and similar notifications by other offices, don't require the Pope's personal authorization.
