The contents of the Nyabinghi drums page were merged into Nyabinghi rhythm#Drums on April 2019. For the contribution history and old versions of the merged article please see its history. |
The statement that the funde plays on 1 and 3, like the thunder, is misleading. The funde actually plays two notes while the thunder plays one.
Merge
editRight now, this, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akete and the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyabinghi_rhythm#Drums section all roughly cover the same topic, but with some conflicts. It would be most fortuitous if this was cleared up, fixed and streamlined. Perhaps merging is not the right way to go about it? But, then we run into some issues:
- what should the eventually resulting page be called?
- information from some pages like http://www.meekmandrums.com/ http://www.meekmandrums.com/history and other sources should be added.
- right now wikidata is a mess, it has one entry for Akete (Q4700654) and one for "Nyabinghi drums" (Q3346567)
- I only found one picture on commons: (Kete_drum.jpg) more should be added, additionally it does not look like http://www.meekmandrums.com/images/stories/available%20drums%20pictures/09_natural-drum-set_kete-funde-bassdrum.jpg which I found on the aforementioned site.
I work with Musicbrainz' instruments, and I edit wikidata somewhat, but I've only done some light gnoming on wikipedia, so I wouldn't know where to begin doing such an endeavour --CatCat (talk) 16:49, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
- It is a real mess (good call, CatCat), and a solution is difficult. Can I suggest that one organization would be to have:
- Move the large section on Nyabinghi rhythm#Nyabinghi music to a new Nyabinghi music page, which could then accommodate the two drum pages, Nyabinghi drums and Akete.
- Leave the ceremonial description currently in the lede of Nyabinghi rhythm where it is, perhaps changing the title of the page to better reflect the contents (but this could be a subsequent change. Klbrain (talk) 21:19, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
- Support The suggested drum-related mergers should definitely be performed, however I'm unsure what to do afterwards. Is Nyabinghi music only for the ceremonies mentioned in the lead? Is Nyabinghi celebrations performed by all rastafari groups or only the nyabinghi? What is the terminology used for the celebrations? All these questions are important to decide on a course of action. If the music is only for celebrations then the article shouldn't be split. Trialpears (talk) 22:05, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
I have now performed the merger. Please revert my edits if you disagree with my decision and open the proposal again as the discussion was not properly closed by an uninvolved editor. Trialpears (talk) 14:54, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
