On the nonexistence of lateral nasals
editBerry claims two bizarre things about Nzema phonology: first, that it has an alveolar rhotic fricative; second, that it has a lateral nasal, or "naso-lateral" as he calls it. I assumed from his description - in which he does say it's an alveolar fricative, and not the uvular - that he meant a sort of trill for the first consonant, and so have said as much in the phonology section. For the second, however, I have no idea what it's supposed to be. Lateral nasals are, to my knowledge, impossible, but Berry does say in no uncertain terms that that's what it is; as for the IPA, he puts down /nl/, which I interpreted as /l̃ /. If anyone has a better clue about what he means by these, please edit it. Lingvulo (talk) 03:46, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
