I worked at OTC Carnarvon between February, 1973 and July, 1984. The large (97') dish was in use for all of that time doing communications between eastern Australia and Western Australia. This included TV transmissions, and, I think, voice (telephone) channels as well. I can't be sure because I wasn't handling those things myself; I worked in the Tracking, Telemetry and Command (TT&C) section instead, under a contract OTC had with Intelsat.
I'd like to correct the impression that the 97' antenna sat there doing nothing most of the time. That is not so. Rjmx (talk) 02:58, 20 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
