So help me God

edit

What is the legal status if one omits the "So help me God"? Is there a provision for that? Ingolfson (talk) 07:24, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

You can take an affirmation, which omits the reference to God, instead of an Oath. It has the same legal effect. Personally I think we should only have affirmations, but that's just me. --Lholden (talk) 00:48, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Oaths Modernisation Bill

edit

[1]I believe that this Bill has since lapsed. Brian | (Talk) 01:16, 20 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Technically it was "discharged" under a Standing Order, but yes the page needs to be updated to reflect that. Also the discussion around Harawira's most recent theatre should be added, and probably past attempts at getting around the oath. --LJ Holden 21:38, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
yep. For my two cents, I think half the reason it was discharged was due to Harawira's SOP. It was easier to just send the Bill down the Order paper for both governments than bring that up for a vote. Thanks for updating Lewis Brian | (Talk) 23:51, 20 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've not read anything re Harawira's SOP - I suspect the government just didn't want to advance a piece of legislation originally introduced by Labour. --LJ Holden 03:10, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
